Um..this is normal. Gas always goes up during summer months. However, it's already ridiculously high, again.

factor in china using more oil more for their economy which increases demand as well as the weak dollar yes oil will spike. The days of cheap oil are over as the US economy recovers energy use will rise and oil prices will rise also. Its inevitable. If the Suez Canal is blocked or closed due to the egypt deal hello $100 barrel oil

Every hedge fund and investment bank is speculating on oil, what do you expect?

As cool as that is, we'd still need oil for machines that build it. The paint, plastics and rubber would be make with some sort of petroleum ingredients. It would aid in the total consumption, though.

Obviously, there is no way we would get our selves off of oil in the very near future, but things like this are heading in the right direction!

A lot of people don't realize the magnitude of petroleum based products. I'm pretty sure you could point to anything in your house and it is either made from petroleum as a whole or part, or in manufacturing used petroleum. People love to consume, but love to bitch at the same time. They also don't realize that it takes millions of dollars to even take a guess that their "might" be oil under a formation, and then add to that the $$$$$$ it takes to drill and then produce, and then refine, and then ship, and then yada yada yada.

Yeah I know but do we even have enough natural gas in the ground here, to make that ever happen? You know, for any sustainable amount of time. Say like 30 or 40 years.

Yes. There's at least a 20 year supply under where I work right here, and that's just one formation. There's two more formations as well. One below the mega one, and one above as a shallow formation. These are all around the country just waiting to be tapped. The problem is there's too many NIMBY's around who just want to use the resources and not have it drilled by them.
