Yes. Liberals uprooted their entire lives, quit their jobs, sold their houses, because some vague unnamed legislation failed, and moved to Texas specifically just to try to undermine our wholesome family values. Sounds legit.

Most of us here are pretty much against entitlement, gun control, obamacare, regulations, taxes, big government, hybrid mustangs that get 40mpg - well that's what the backers of LGBT want. The LGBT is nothing but an arm of the Liberals and Democratic Party. They will push 'common sense' agenda items to get into power - and then push the things we do not want - and by then it will be late - hell it's already too late for most of America - Obama got re-elected. The Liberals are here because their failed ideas didn't work where they came from - so they are going to try it again in Texas - and Texas will end up like the rest of the Blue states.
I know several gay business owners in Texas that are clients of the company I work for that would rejoin the GOP in a heartbeat if the party would get out of the business of making them "not welcome".
For me personally, this is the exact reason why I STOPPED being a republican/conservative because I got to witness firsthand in 2004 at both the state ( Texas ) & GOP National conventions the log cabins being asked: "to leave because they were told beforehand to NOT show up". My wife on the otherhand, still votes for a straight GOP ticket -- Oh well.
What really is evident on this board is the plausible deniability of the typical GOP/Conservative voter -- " We dont have anything against gays, and dont believe in discrimination " proclamations -- Yet they still vote for politicians that do because they want a tax cut.
Enjoy 2014 is all I can say because `16, `18, `20, & `22 will be bloodbaths for you.

So you left the GOP to go Dem because the GOP doesn't like gays? Trying to tell us something?
For the record, I couldn't care one way or another about same sex marriage. I think we have larger issues to deal with as a country.

Agreed though, we do have larger issues.. and we arent too far apart on them as well.
However, you have one party that has 15-20% of it`s base simply because the other party doesnt want them because 30% of it`s existing base would leave if they welcomed them.
Sucks to pin your hopes on that party until enough of that 30% dies off is all I can say.

I see Texas becoming slightly more conservative before the demographic shift happens in 2022/24 ( if it happens at all )

One of my close friends is completely against gay marriage and when I press him on the issue he says it is due to his religious beliefs. However he chooses to ignore the side of those christian beliefs that would have him forgive others and help him to understand that it's not his place to judge them. He also claims to be a staunch republican but I can't see how they can be soooooo against government control except when it is used to exude power that isn't theirs.
I'm a conservative, but this whole thing bugs the crap out of me. Who gives a damn, that is actually minding their own business?
For the record I'm straight and married, I have a gay uncle and my sister in law is gay and wants BADLY to get married to her woman but can't in this state.
Seeing what took place at the state & national conventions was bad enough, but the final straw for me was right around election day at the church I was attending the conversation about gays "destroying" marriage came up and how Kerry was bad because he supported it ( He actually supported civil unions and not marriage - but they refused to believe it ) and somehow I was forced into the conversation and really told them how I felt....
Texas will easily pass a ban on marriage, civil unions, adoption, legal rights, etc and it would last about 10 years before legal precedence began to strike down those laws and in 15-20 years gay marriage would be 50 states legal. The best way to avoid this would be to support civil unions to give those people legal rights and the whole situation about marriage could be averted for another 30-40 years while it was slowing brought in and society would be able to handle it better. Needless to say it didnt go over well, I was asked to leave, and later informed I shouldnt come back - ever.
I left both the GOP and that denomination ( SBC ) after that, went to a different church ( met my wife there ), and kind of enjoy getting the last laugh on that prediction.

So a "Federal" judge (the U.S. Government) rules Texas' ban on gay marriage unconstitutional. I wonder if they plan on going after the other 16 states that ban gay marriage, or if they're just trying to turn one of the largest Red states into a Blue one....
Are we shifting towards the "blue?" I don't think so because I honestly think that there is a large amount of Republicans who feel the same way a lot of us on DFWM's do."Any dog under 50lbs is a cat and cats are pointless." - Ron Swanson

I said I'm a conservative... Not in the GOP. I'll vote for the best person available for the office they are running for, not straight ticket.
I completely agree that the GOP is killing themselves. You said we all have plausible deniability, but that doesn't apply to me and sorta irks me that you make a sweeping statement to include me that basically calls me a liar. I mean what I say, and I say what I mean.Originally posted by stevoNot a good idea to go Tim 'The Toolman' Taylor on the power phallus.

If the Republicans had not run off the those voters ( and voters like me ), then there never would have been a President Obama in the first place.
Just something to think about the next time you go into a voting booth and vote for that lower taxes, small limited government, 2nd amendment defender, God fearing, Aborting hating, "marriage protector" you vote for and cant understand why that ideology has so much resistance against it.Last edited by Lajntx; 03-01-2014, 09:11 PM.
