IDK if they still do it, but I recall that when I was in the Army, some of our Jr enlisted with families qualified for Earned Income Credit, and they would actually pay it out monthly, with their check. So not only were they not getting any federal taxes withheld, they were basically getting monthly "loans" towards their expected EIC.

Actually I havent paid in several years. I try to break even.
I claim 0, get raped month to month and sometimes have to pay in 100 or sometimes pay in nothing.

I had the same thing happen to me last year and have spent 10+ hours on hold with the IRS so far and repeat the cycle every two months when they threaten to levy my assets.
My legitimate refund is $53 after deductions. Someone in Florida used my name and social to file saying they had 4 different jobs, with their income somewhere around $65k but saying they paid in $15k in taxes. Their "refund" was $43xx and some change.
Well the IRS processed a direct deposit through Turbotax to some bank in Washington State and apparently didn't even bother to question the fact that I live and work in Texas and have had the same employer for 9+ years but somehow managed to work 4 other jobs in Florida and moved to Washington. Thankfully the checking account the person used was cancelled but Turbotax's bank send me a check instead, which I followed the IRS's directions and wrote VOID on and sent to their office along with an affidavit saying my identity was stolen.
So now instead of getting my refund well over a year later they are sending me bills for the amount they paid plus late fees and interest and regularly threaten to seize my property, while holding on to this years refund. When I call I sit on hold for 45 minutes and explain everything again, then get transferred to another agent and sit on hold for another 30 minutes, who places me on hold to research everything and will eventually tell me they froze the account for 8 more weeks and to keep checking back.
I do have a PIN now that has to be used when I file and I'd recommend everyone get one so this doesn't happen to them. Granted it's only $4300 and eventually it'll get sorted out but in the mean time there is a lot of stress knowing the IRS can seize my house, cars, quads and garnish my wages until they get their money back.

I haven't had that happen, but my ex wife did claim my son on her taxes a couple of years ago, when I was supposed to be claiming him. She initially asked me if she could and I said hell no. So she did it anyways. I called the IRS and they advised that because she had already electronically filed and claimed him, that I would have to file a paper return. Which is what we ended up having to do.

I just don't understand getting back MORE than you paid in.
I hate this time of the year normally but I paid in every month last year. I will be tickled to get 80% of it back though. This year though, I filed my 673 and they don't get a single dime a month for Federal Income Tax from me until the last 3 months of the year...if I stick around that long. I am not gonna loan them shit this year.Fuck you. We're going to Costco.
