  • Bill nails it....

Haven't kept up with O'Reilly as of late but he nails it here:

Why many Americans know very little about their own country

That data pool is too small to have any statistical significance on 320 million people.

I don't want to hear a fucking thing about "dishonest" media, or ignorance of the populace from someone like Bill O'Reilly. He outright lies on his telecasts and is part of the 46% of Americans that believe the accounts of Genesis happened word for word.

Just said that he had a point about this country having a large narcissistic, idiotic and uninformed segment of voters. None of which has anything to do with religion.

But then again everything has a religious angle according to racr, so I'm not surprised by the reaction.

Not everything has a religious angle, I just used it as an example. I'm just going to laugh at the bolded, followed by your next sentence.

Do you really think asking more people would get a less miserable result?

"Among U.S. citizens, 29 percent could not name the Vice President Joseph Biden; 43 percent were unable to define the Bill of Rights; 40 percent do not know America fought Japan and Germany in World War II -- 40 percent; 73 percent do not know communism was the main concern of the Cold War; and 67 percent of American citizens do not know that our economic system is capitalism."

Is there something in the article you disagree with? Or is this just another opportunity for you to get your religious persecution on?

I don't watch O'Reilly - but there are people that still think the earth is FLAT, and others still believe the Sun revolves around the Earth -and these people VOTE.

Persecution? What I do isn't persecution. You don't appear to grasp the meaning behind my statement, and only focused in on the religious aspect of it. To directly answer your first question: Yes. I will list them out for you.

                      "The dishonest liberal media"

He has been proven to be dishonest, so he can't make the insinuation that he's honest.

"It's quite clear that the public school system is a main culprit. It's no longer teaching history, geography or civics in an effective way."

He is unable to grasp 4th grade science, so what's "clear" to him on matters of education are suspect at best.

"generation of self-absorbed, addicted, distracted and ignorant people."

Coming from one of the most self-absorbed people that I know of, this statement is of little meaning.

"diverting a lot of Americans away from real life."

Here he complains about a problem that he is a part of.

"You can now create your own world on the net devoid of reality"

You can do that outside the net as well. He is trying to vilify the internet.

"very few shrewd people are now wielding enormous power."

He is one of those people. He has the ear of millions of uninformed gullible viewers that draw their opinions based off of his misinformation and bone-headed statements.

"Therefore we are a country in decline primarily because 320 million American Americans citizens aren't paying attention"

I agree, but Bill isn't doing anything to counteract it. He is a big government proponent just like countless others are, so for him to make this statement is a bit hypocritical.

"They do not seem to be interested in the welfare of their country. They are primarily interested in their own welfare."

Welcome to the human condition, Bill. The number 1 driving force for humans is greed. More money, bigger house, more land, nicer car. He is a poster child for greed. If he wasn't, why is he making so much money? Why does he not donate everything except a modest living amount to charity?

In short, I disagree with him because he is complaining about everything he is, it seems. I don't disagree with the actual facts he provides. If he was to give just the facts and keep his opinion out of it, I wouldn't have a single problem with the guy.

Asking such a small number of people and then saying "Americans" is not acceptable. I have had larger survey populations for class assignments, and only 7k people go to my school. This survey has no value.

All of those talking head guys are wrong at times. An example that comes to my mind is Mark Levin backing up and defending Marco "amnesty" Rubio, in spite of the mounting evidence that Rubio stood for a lot of things that Levin seemed to be against.

I like some of O'Reillys stuff, but it seems to me that (as many of them do) he's gotten comfortable in his position and he has made some questionable statements and has some questionable viewpoints. He's become a part of the problem, an insider.

So like I do with all of them I listen to the stuff that I agree with and I disregard the rest. None of them are perfect.
