SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A divided federal appeals court has struck down California's concealed weapons rules, saying they violate the Second Amendment right to bear arms.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said Thursday that California is wrong to require applicants to show good cause to receive a permit to carry a concealed weapon. The court ruled that all law-abiding citizens are entitled to carry concealed weapons outside the home for self-defense purposes.

The divided three-judge panel disagreed with two other federal appeals courts that have upheld permit rules similar to California's.

The U.S. Supreme Court often takes cases when federal appeals courts issue conflicting rulings.

The Supreme Court ruled in 2008 that law-abiding citizens can keep handguns in the home for self-defense purposes, but didn't address whether that right extends outside the home.

I'd be kind of curious to see if there was any data on what the percentage of "gun related" homicides were back in the 1860s when everyone was strapping on a six-shooter compared to today.

Most likely there is no data such as this but it wouldn't surprise me if the percentage was higher today even with all of the federal\state restrictions in place.....

Fucking A! I hope the Supremes strike it down as well. I wouldn't mind living a few years in Cali if they do.

Just because the concealed carry laws are getting better doesn't mean the rest of the gun laws aren't stupid.

              Oh I know.

But I'm willing to put up with that for a couple years to have easy access to surf, mountain hiking, and skiing ..... as long as I can have my cc on me.

If they wisen up and loosen their other ridiculous laws I might even stay longer,

I'm surprised the 9th circuit was the one that issued this ruling. They are pretty leftie judging from past decisions.

I was stationed in San Diego and thoroughly enjoyed it, however I was ready to come back to Texas when it was all said and done. Their gun laws are utterly ridiculous. I had a good buddy on a SEAL team and even he couldn't get a CHL there. The way it was understood is that generally only politicians and their buddies were able to get one.

San Fran doesn't issue them, but Feinstein magically has one.

The gun control idiots lose case after case and they keep right on trying. This will go to the Supreme Court and they will lose horribly. This is no different than Chicago, you don't have to show any fucking "cause" to carry a gun.
