Electricity prices to soar 80 percent, thanks to EPA coal regulations.

Not bloody likely. The natural gas market has this. Also, the Washington Examiner is a useless rag. Don't pay attention to them.

Ha. Yeah just wait until the already heavily regulations get worse in Natural Gas. It's already happening on a daily basis. Taxes, impact fees, etc, etc... You'd be amazed what we face. Then the idiots who know nothing blame the Gas industry for it. We as a nation are regulating ourselves into oblivion, and for what? Ignorance and bullshit causes. And the worst offenders use the products that are manufactured by these processes the most!

Natural gas shortage hits California power supply

                February 7, 2014 at 7:02 AM
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Californians were urged to voluntarily cut their electricity use Thursday in a rare mid-winter conservation alert, after frigid weather across the U.S. and Canada caused a shortage of natural gas at Southern California power plants.
"While the natural gas shortage is only impacting Southern California power plants, statewide electricity and gas conservation will help free up both electricity and gas supplies for Southern Californians," the California Independent System Operator, which runs the state's power grid, said in a statement.

gas supplies entering Southern California pipelines have been considerably lower the past two days because of high gas prices and strong demand in Texas, the Pacific Northwest and the Rocky Mountain states, which has crimped gas supplies for Southern California.

In 2012, the US electricity generation was 4300 billion kWh gross, 1640 TWh (38%) of it from coal-fired plant, 1277 TWh (30%) from gas, 800 TWh (19%) nuclear, 298 TWh from hydro and 141 TWh from wind. Annual electricity demand is projected to increase to 5,000 billion kWh in 2030, though in the short term it is depressed and is not expected to recover to the 2007 level until about 2015. Annual per capita electricity consumption in 2011 was12,150 kWh. Total capacity is 1055 GWe, less than one tenth of which is nuclear.
