Former Dallas Cowboys running back and NFL MVP Emmitt Smith donated $10,000 to the committee backing Wendy Davis’s campaign for Texas governor last month.
According to campaign filings, the CEO of EJSmith Enterprises donated the money on Jan. 8 to Texas Victory Committee, a joint effort from Wendy Davis for Governor and Battleground Texas, a group that supports Democrats in the state.
The campaign filing reported more than $3.7 million in total contributions as of the last day of the filing period, Jan. 23. Across her campaign entities, Davis raised more than $900,000 from Jan. 1 to Jan. 23. Davis reported raising more than $12 million total in the second half of 2013.
She is facing Republican Attorney General Greg Abbott in the race to take Gov. Rick Perry’s opening seat. Abbott’s campaign reported raising more than $3.1 million during the January filing period.
