If it is "forbidden" kids will always gravitate to it. I am too scared to leave my truck gun in condition one because if my kid did get curious when it was on the kitchen counter or in the center console all he would have to do is click the safety off and it could be too easy to discharge it. Being a 4 year old he cant rack the slide on a 1911 so I dont feel too uncomfortable leaving it out. Being around it and seeing it so much he does not even give it a second look ever. I do however make sure to at least once a week go over that it is a dangerous thing and not to be scared of it but at the same time it is not a toy under any circumstance.
