There is no chopper in the world that can handle a piece of wire rope into the tail rotor. The part that fails is not the rotor itself. The drive shaft going to the tail rotor is what will fail and it will do so very very quickly. A length of wire rope into the main rotor will most likely cause a transmission failure or a failure in the pitch control of the rotor if it causes any damage at all but will not drop the craft very quickly.

Same concept as hitting a rope with a lawn mower. One way or another, you're spending the next 30 minutes unwinding that rat bastard from the shaft.

Apaches are mean as fuck. During the gulf war they took out over 500 tanks and we lost one out of 277. The body can take 23mm auto cannon fire, and the windshield can take anything up to 12.7x108. If the Iraqi military only took out one, and they had all kinds of missiles and ordnance, rednecks with small arms are target practice.
