Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

You want to compare government spending (ours or otherwise) to what Americans give to charity? Are you nuts? It's apples and oranges. Tax dollars spent/government money spent is money that we paid in, that elected officials spend. Someone giving money to charity is a choice, voluntary action of their own disposable income that affects no one else.

I'm all for a strong military, but we spend way too much and are inefficient with the dollars spent. Furthermore, the money should be spent for defense of our nation -- not every piece of land on the continent. If we're going to liberate people (say, Iraq), then we should get money from them once their free and an established nation to offset the cost we endured. Hell, why don't we just contract ourselves out?

Would you like me to point out the enumerated responsibilities of the Congress? With what it takes in, our defense spending is a drop in the bucket. You remove the federal government from it's unconstitutional spending and we start having massive surpluses and can pay off our debt fairly rapidly

That's not perspective. Perspective to the other countries on that graph would be say comparing them to what % Texas spends on defense -- not the US. Besides, I'm not concerned about what % other nations spend or even our %. I'm concerned about how we're spending way more than we need with a large part of it for resources used in defense of other nations that we have no business liberating.

So this is where we're at now? You're going to start making ridiculous comparisons to justify anything military related? I know Matt is on hiatus and all, but I didn't expect you to take his place.

NOt at all. I do believe administrative costs need cut and penalties for failing to provide weapon systems on time and under budget should be enacted. There is zero reason the F22 should have problems that prohibit it from flying after the time and money put into it. If a company bids on a project and fails to complete it in time and for the amount they bid, there shouldn't be an extension, the amount paid plus penalty should be assessed against them and the bids should be reopened.

Smart handling of resources. Again, there are 18 enumerated powers of the federal government and that is it. Before one can talk about cutting the defense budget (using resources better is a valid argument), one must first remove all unconstitutional spending.

...........and? Not sure where I said other spending shouldn't be cut as well. Maybe you could quote it for me. Either that, or perhaps you could stop being so impressed with your ability to interject "Constitution" into every conversation and inventing arguments that aren't there.

Keep in mind that this is a one year picture, a country like Macedonia or Eritrea could buy a couple of tanks and it'd blow their percentage out of the water. Oman's is high due to ordering a bunch of F-16s and Typhoon fighters.

Our budget is spent developing systems, their budgets are spent buying completed products. It's not really a fair comparison. Also keep in mind who was in charge of Congress in 2010. It wasn't a good year for defense contractors.
