    I agree, at first these will be worth a lot. Ammo will outpace all other commodities if a prolonged collapse happens.

        You're going to need food, water and ammo first and foremost. After that, I believe silver is a better option than gold as its cheaper to purchase and easier to trade for other necessities due to it being less valuable. Lets say gold goes to $10K an ounce, what good is it unless you either have it in fractional ounces to barter with or plan on buying something worth $10K.

        Silver on the other hand could go to $100 an ounce and be far more useful especially if you have plenty of it in gram sizes.

          Precious metals in case of an economic meltdown or government strife like when when the government of the USSR collapsed.

          In case of a Mad Max style free for all then ammunition comes into play.

                $100, of a currency that has collapsed?

                        And gasoline.

                        To understand who he was, you have to go back to another time. When the world was powered by the black fuel. And the desert sprouted great cities of pipe and steel. Gone now, swept away. For reasons long forgotten, two mighty warrior tribes went to war and touched off a blaze which engulfed them all. Without fuel, they were nothing. They built a house of straw. The thundering machines sputtered and stopped. Their leaders talked and talked and talked. But nothing could stem the avalanche. Their world crumbled. The cities exploded. A whirlwind of looting, a firestorm of fear. Men began to feed on men.

                              Thats the point. Silver will be less costly to purchase now and better suited for smaller daily transactions than gold will be. Ammo is also going to be a great commodity to barter with as well.

                              Let's say you need 10 gallons of diesel fuel. Would you rather trade some ammo or fractional silver for it or gold you paid a premium for when purchased?

                              Ammo = $.50-$3.00 a round
                              Silver = $20ish an ounce or about $30ish an ounce in gram sized pieces
                              Gold = $1300ish an ounce or about $1500ish an ounce in gram sized pieces

                                You missed his point. Silver won't be comparable to a COLLAPSED dollar. A devalued dollar, maybe, but if it has collapsed, then it is worthless.
