A couple of new laws in California have the porn industry up in arms. The new law that passed have adult film actors wearing protection. This protection wouldn’t just be condoms. The new California law forces porn stars to wear full face shields, goggles, and latex gloves before the bad 70′s music ever plays.
Measure B gained national headlines in the United States because it forced porn stars to put on condoms before sex. This had some in the film industry up in arms saying that it took too much time between shots and would make them lose viewers. The health industry stated that it was needed to prevent the spread of disease. Despite the outcry from the adult film workers, the measure passed in California by an enormous majority of the public.
The bill is stalled in the senate, but the most recent proposed draft would — in addition to mandating condom use — require that “personal protective equipment” be used to “prevent contact of an employee’s eye; skin, mucous membranes, or genitals with the blood or OPIM-STI of another.”~Huffington Post
OPIM-STI as described in the bill, which reads like an OSHA manual, “ means bodily fluids and other substances that may contain and transmit sexually transmitted pathogens. These fluids include, but are not limited to, pre-ejaculate, ejaculate, semen, vaginal secretions, fecal matter and rectal secretions, secretions from wounds or sores that are potentially infected with sexually transmitted pathogens, and any other bodily fluid when visibly contaminated with blood or all bodily fluids in situations where it is difficult or impossible to differentiate between bodily fluids.”
What that means is that they would have to wear goggles, gloves, condoms, and hazmat protection on the sets of the adult film industry.
If you thought that condoms caused the adult film to become up in arms, you have not seen the latest reports with this out of California. Two porn stars made a fake public service announcement and posted it. On Porn School professor, and adult film director, posted the bill and started protests.
A lot in the industry are saying that this measure will just have all the porn actors leaving Los Angeles and locating to other parts of the state or to other states. One was quoted as saying, “If they don’t want our money and business, then we go elsewhere. The industry is not going away.” They point that if California and specifically Los Angeles continue that they will take their $11 million in revenue to the city elsewhere. They say the added measures will drive down their viewers and people buying their products.
The city on the other hand insists that they are not trying to stop the industry but with the advent of all the Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) that it wants to insist on protecting the people working. The Senate in California says the added measures are to ensure further protection from eyes and nose exposure and protecting the workers is what it is all about.
