      Heathly 25 year old.

Has to pay 250 a month for premiums and have a 5000 dollar deductible

      250 * 12 = 3000, now lets add the 5000 dedictible

You will basically have to pay 8000 out of your pocket before a year before the government pays a dime.

Most 25 year olds make less than 35k, especially since companies cut thier hours to 29 hours or less.

That's like 20% of their income before taxes. Take away income taxes, social security, medicare, and its like taking 40% or more of thier income because obamacare is a tax right????
But you youngsters are the ones that will support the entire program for everybody else.

It's not necessarily mooching by the 25-year-old if the 'rents already carry a family plan anyway. Often that plan will cover all family members with no additional premium cost per person. That's just makes sound financial sense to do so in such a case.

Yep. You are FORCED to buy coverage for something that is impossible to break even on unless you have a major problem. That is my main problem with it. You're screwed by being forced to pay for it. Then you still cannot afford to go to the doctor. They keep saying that if you are below a certain income level, you will be able to get rebates. That isn't going to help you pay for it when you need it. If you are late to pay the bill, I am sure the doctors and hospitals will be reporting you to the debt collectors and credit reporting agencies, further screwing you over.

You kind of mentioned it above, but don't forget about losing the ability to pay for insurance before-taxes or being charges taxes on the part that you company pays for, if they even provide you with insurance.

This shit is a royal ass screwing for everyone involved. I cannot believe that there are so many ignorant people that think it is a good idea.

I don't believe obummercare is set up as a family plan like that. Each adult is charged seperately; $695/month.

It is in an indirect way. Obamacare provisions raised the age of eligibility up to 26 and eliminated the requirement that the adult child reside at home. Those provisions are already in effect and began at the start of 2013.

I was just giving an example. In all honesty its cheaper just for a young person to pay the penalty and roll the dice.

If they enroll they'll still have to pay like 8k or so if something major happens to them. It would be better to save the monthly premium for 3 years and cash flo your major incident. Hell with the deductibles your going to pay out of pocket anyway, you might as well pocket the premiums

I agree completely, because I know in my case I had minimal contact with doctors at that age and well beyond. It's an option to include adult children on family health insurance plans through age 25, and if it doesn't cost extra (it doesn't on mine) it's a no-loss situation worth considering.

I don't think very many people care enough about the mandates or penalties to sign up. So far I dont know anyone who is going to sign up for it.
