  • anyone here tried to signup for Obamacare yet

just wondering what you thought of the rates, or, the fines if you don't sign up.

(Reuters) - Americans will pay an average premium of $328 monthly for a mid-tier health insurance plan when the Obamacare health exchanges open for enrollment next week
Don't worry about what you can't change.
Do the best you can with what you have.
Be honest, even if it hurts.

Except, per Barry, a lot of that will be "subsidized" by us working class folks.

I read for a family of 4 your basic health insurance would increase about $7500

The penalty is $95 per adult or 1% of the families income whichever is greater.

Why would anyone sign up unless they get sick? It only costs 1% of your income as a penalty this year.

So just wait until you get sick and then sign up, they can't deny you for coverage.

Bingo. And that's why this thing will fail.

One of the BIG flaws. The fuhrer thinks that healthy 27-year-olds will be lined up to enroll in this scam, so that the elderly and impoverished will be subsidized. That's one of the reasons he's been trolling college campuses.

That depends on what your definition failure is. Failure in this case is a success for the left because they will wring their hands and say "We tried the free market thing (private insurances companies) and it did not work". They will then use that as a excuse to pass a law making the government the ONLY insurance company.

Poor people will get a subsidy for their premium....but what about their copays and deductibles? $5k deductible for someone making $20k a year isnt goign to work.

I thought about this too, but that 1% is only for the first year and for that one individual. IIRC, there's an additional penalty for each kid and all the penalties will increase each year you don't have coverage.

I think the max penalty is 2.5%

As for waiting until you get sick to sign up, that won't be so easy. Just like with regular insurance, there will be enrollment periods and waiting periods. At least that is what I have heard and read.

This whole scam has nothing to do with health care. The plan is to go to a single payer system. Then the money will all go into the big pot to be used as politicians see fit. Again, like Social Security, the funds collected will be used to fund any program or grant that will benefit the ones who vote like the ruling class wants. We are going back to serfdom like the middle ages. Lyndon Johnson did it with the Social Security money, so what makes you think Buckwheat or Hillary would not do it with health care money. I just wonder what all the big insurance companies are going to invest in. That's what I will be watching. They will not just go away.

That will be interesting, seeing as they don't actually manufacture anything. GE and GM have diversified and split off into dozens of other companies including insurance providers.

Lets look at the math. (Approximate numbers here)

                            Heathly 25 year old.

Has to pay 250 a month for premiums and have a 5000 dollar deductible

                            250 * 12 = 3000, now lets add the 5000 dedictible

You will basically have to pay 8000 out of your pocket before a year before the government pays a dime.

Most 25 year olds make less than 35k, especially since companies cut thier hours to 29 hours or less.

That's like 20% of their income before taxes. Take away income taxes, social security, medicare, and its like taking 40% or more of thier income because obamacare is a tax right????
