I'm supposed to deliver to the Smithsonian on Tuesday morning. Might just be bypassing and going straight to NYC if this happens.

Funny thing is, when I was in, and the budget scare was causing looming govt shutdown, Navy Federal said they would front military paychecks for all members so military did not see a stop in pay. Besides, if you're in, and you don't have a savings that can cover a few weeks without pay, you're financially inept. That tax free deployment thing, plus the $2 meals on base, plus housing allowance (or barracks) pretty much leaves you with very few required expenses, and a big opportunity to save.

Except for if the checks stop so do the housing allowances for people that live off base since it's rolled in with your paycheck.

$2 dollar meals at the chow hall only exist for breakfast during the week. Lunch and Dinner are about 5 dollars and weekend meals (which we only get two of at least in the Marine Corps) costs 6 dollars a meal (5.80ish).

Not everyone uses Navy Federal so the ones that didn't were getting Navy Marine Corps Relief Foundation checks for 500 dollars the last time this happened.

I'm not real worried about it. The last time they "shutdown" we still got paid even though we were told we wouldn't and would still have to come to work.

I don't get ANY kind of housing allowance living in the barracks at all. They take every dime. All 2000 dollars a month of it out here for a 144 sq foot box.

I didn't have any money put back as I was married and living off post as an E3. Missing a paycheck would have had some very bad consequences and I had BOA.

Before we leave base today we're securing all aircraft long term just in case.
You remember the stories John use to tell us about the the three chinamen playing Fantan? This guy runs up to them and says, "Hey, the world's coming to an end!" and the first one says, "Well, I best go to the mission and pray," and the second one says, "Well, hell, I'm gonna go and buy me a case of Mezcal and six whores," and the third one says "Well, I'm gonna finish the game." I shall finish the game, Doc.

I was there with VMGR-234 for a while. Now I'm with another reserve unit out at Miramar. No one higher than a SSGT has even mentioned any of this at work.
