Not really. I was shot by an idiot with a firearm. Doesn't matter where and it doesn't change the second amendment. Supreme Law of the Land trumps all emotional ploys

Were you not in a foreign land serving in a branch of the armed forces with the possibility of being harmed? Yes, there is a huge difference. You cannot guarantee what you would do. There are requirements to hunt, to carry, to drive, etc. There should be a requirement to educate yourself when purchasing a firearm. You have the right to bear arms, you should also be educated while exercising that right.

I can see both sides of this argument and honestly, even though it is such a thin line, I still believe so many things that are now and are currently being pushed into the realm of government control, simply are not the responsibility of government. Our society is in an interesting time, when talk of federally mandated (post primary school) education actually has legs.
I fear we rely too much on others and gov for what we should do ourselves.

I have been saying this for years. Decide at what age you are an adult and use that for everything; sex, smoking, drinking, military service, drivers license, voting, owning firearms, etc, etc.

And where would the authority to demand that come from?

I was shot by someone without prior gun training while they were trying to protect themselves. Want to try another emotional ploy? My answer doesn't change. The constitution is clear and doesn't change because of emotional pleas. You do not like it, call an Article 5 convention
I don't even agree with training for chl, or with the fact it even exists. It does say thr right to keep and bear arms shall not.be enfringed. On that front, Alaska is doing it right. Arizona and Vermont too, I believe.

I know for one that my friends and myself are safer with firearms than many 21+ people. I screamed at a 30+ year old guy for pointing his loaded (safety off) 1911 at me at the range once.

Exactly right. If the constitution has been incorporated into every state and city, then that means the second is as well, thus no governmental body at any level may infringe on the right to keep and bear arms

Maybe it is time we tried a different approach with the bill of rights and laws. I would kind of like to have the discussion nationally that if firearms are subject to licensing and registration then the rest of the bill of rights is too. Every time a liberal opens their mouth they get fined or jailed if they dont have a free speech permit or have failed to register their assault mouth. That would never work, of course, and with my luck it would backfire, they would accept it with open arms, and there would be no discussion.

The same organization that regulates training courses for CCW permits and hunter safety. I still say if training was required to purchase a firearm then there should be no reason for conceal carry training or even hunter safety since it's all the same. Kill two birds with one stone. Kapow. I just solved all of our dumbfuck gun owner problems.

No, what authority, not who would do it. The Supreme Law of the Land, the Constitution says the government has no authority to make any laws on firearms. Rebuttal?

Obviously, Frost, it would be a joint effort of congress and the president since they make and enforce any law they want. If congress didn't do it, the president would through his supreme authority of executive order, which obviously was written into our constitution to bypass congress for the good of the people, since the government knows best in all cases. It really is not that difficult to understand. We broke away from britain so we could give our local government much more power.

But they are. Weird how you have no problem with safety courses for permits, but go ape shit crazy if the very same thing is suggested when purchasing a firearm. I would have no problem with this being state mandated. As I said, TX is doing it right with requiring a class before eligible for a gun permit.
                              This on the other hand:
Watch the Virginia concealed carry class online and take the test for free and get certified today.

                              is fucked up.

No, I have a problem with permits as the constitution says I don't need permits to exercise my rights. As I stated, with the constitution incorporated, who has the authority to mandate classes before gun purchases?
