  • Happy birthday Milton Friedman!

    Would have been 101 today.

I had a whole thread in canada about Milton Friedman including his lectures, tv appearances, and his free to choose series.

If only this man were cloned and alive today to take it to the statists of both parties... maybe we wouldn't be so far down the rabbit hole.

(Just re registered on dfws to see if I can find my thread. Waiting on "admin" approval.)

So that thread has a bunch of links that dont work anymore, so.....

Here's a good one about Friedman debunking 5 myths in a lecture to Utah Stata Univ.
    Worth your time.

Probably the person I most look up to, in the acedemic/brilliance sense. Although he got the inflation/monetary phenomenon thing wrong - I think he gets a pass. Happy Birthday, Miltie.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

My favorite part of all of those videos is the one where he is on a college campus in the late 1960s/early 70s and one guy gets up and starts to talk about how Communism is so great.

Milton asks him why there are no boats leaving Florida to go to Cuba.

I want to find the one where the interviewer starts listing off all the departments of the government ... Miltie just says "do away with it" ... "End it" ... "Do away with it" ... "End it" ... "Keep it, but reform it"...

He had a great way to get at the heart of the problem quickly and make you rethink your belief in a false line of thinking.

There was one where he was arguing against equal payfor equal work laws for women and blacks. After he made a comment, some feminist gets up and accuses him of being sexist basically. He very jovially turns her argument on its head, showing how her belief in the law is hurting her and anyone that might be less skilled and actually helps the sexist guy doing the hiring. At the end he makes a point to say...

                  Paraphrasing.

"Heyyyy, I'm on your side. We want the same thing. It's just you're wrong"

I can listen to his q&a's for hours.
