Or in my particular case, I may not actually have to fire. I'm not a braggart or anything but a good punch from a guy my size would probly get the message across well enough. Depends on the situation. In some cases I'd never get the chance.

And its not as if you'll be going to jail for murder one. That just ain't gonna happen. Period. You may get some kind of weakened manslaughter charge or something, but like I said I'd take it if I had to, to help someone who was about to be killed or whatnot.
9.33 says that if you are justified in defending yourself under 9.31 or 9.32, you would be justified in defending another.

The thing to remember, as it was explained to me, is that in Texas, shooting someone is always illegal. Chapter 9 provides exemptions to criminal responsibility. That's why even seemingly justified shootings will sometimes go to grand jury before they are no billed or, as sometimes happens, the indictment is returned and then you better hope your pockets are deep.

The problem with getting involved with a third party is that the person you think you are trying to help could easily turn around and fuck you legally, like lying about the circumstances because you just smoked her baby-daddy. Never mind saving her life. Shooting someone can get really expensive, and the third party you tried to help could easily be the cause of your expense.

I'm with ceyko, I do not want to get mixed up with the legal system. It's expensive and is beyond your control. People should carry their own guns for self defense. I carry a phone, and will happily dial 911 and be a witness.

Well said MOSFET - specifically your 3rd paragraph which came to mind with some stories I've either read or been told.

ST - Trust me, I know what you're saying. I'd WANT to help, but people are idiots and the legal system is insane. I have no interest in putting my family at risk financially or otherwise for someone else if there is ANY grey area. I also don't believe in discharging my weapon w/o intending to shoot someone in those situations.

We can argue scenarios all day long, but my view still stands and after that it is a matter of perspective and our own personal choices. I'm not saying 100% I'll never help defend another person, but I'm saying the situation better damn well warrant it right then and there.

Florida has had a CHL since the late '80s, while Texas didn't get it until '95.

Thank you. I agree with your thoughts on this, too. Rule of thumb is that when I carry, it's generally for me and immediate family; probably a very few select friends.

I think Florida was one of the first states to allow CHL. Maybe the first? They seem pretty progressive, if that's the word, regarding sensible gun laws.

I'm no guru on AZ laws, but I'd probably rate fun gun states (from my knowledge and experience)...

              AZ
              TX
              FLA
PA (I know Yale will disagree with this one )

I like the open carry thinking, but that's another thread that has probably been beaten to death.

I like the open carry, or option to conceal thinking. They ought to make that a law.

This can't be Sir Paladin. That's not in his language. Either that or we've started witnessing one of possibly many personalities?

South Florida where most of the illegals and big cities are, youre right. very blue...however, up in the panhandle where im from, its about as far right as you can get.

FL is like the 2nd leading state when it comes to executing criminals behind TX if im not mistaken. i dont remember when they retired our "ole sparky"

I wouldn't put AZ on the top of "fun gun" states. As an individual, you have more rights in Texas or Florida as far as self and property protection. Az laws on shooting someone are far more restrictive than in either Texas or Fla. The open carry bit in Az doesn't really do crap if it still restricts what you can do.
