GOP needs to change their platform with regard to social issues. With the forever changed demographics of this country, no candidate will pull the votes in a national election to win. To further your agenda, you must first get your guy in position. No matter how much the GOP beats their chest in disgust of the liberal majority, they must first appeal to said crowd.

Originally posted by Sgt Beavis View PostI agree with this. He has done some damn good things in Louisisana. His anti corruption laws alone should make him Governor for life. However his idea to kill the income tax was recieved very badly because he wanted to transfer that tax burden to sales taxes. Even the Republicans in the state house wouldn't get behind it.
Another issue is that he really isn't much of a speaker. Everyone moans at his response to the Presidents State of the Union speech from a few years ago.
Personally I'm looking at Rand Paul or Chris Christie (sp?). I know they are very different from a political stand point but they possess real leadership qualities that I think are more important than singular political issues. Obviously Rand would be my top pic. Jeb Bush would be 3rd on my list..
Rand Paul is my top pick, and unless someone comes along that is more libertarian leaning than him, he'll stay my pick.
I won't be voting for the lesser of two evils this time. I'd rather vote my beliefs and lose than sell my soul, vote for Generic Republican and still lose.
If we're going to hell I'm going honest.Last edited by sc281; 04-18-2013, 02:37 PM.

Now guns should be a non-issue. It is a constitutional right! Fing period! End of discussion. Don't like guns, no problem --- don't fucking own them. NFA in my opinion is way out of date and panders to liberal society.

Black and white works, sometimes. In politics there are shades my friend, dislike it or not.

Then it scares the hell out of more conservative "swing" voters like myself who, WANT desperately to see a conservative in office. Bibles and baby (abortion) rhetoric are major turn offs to the swing vote. It totally eclipses any good fiscal platforms that the GOP has.

They refuse to campaign on the meaningful issues and instead get caught up in social minutiae that are either categorically flawed stances or are relatively unimportant in the grand scheme of the current state of politics.
The votes were there in '12; all they had to do was drop the moral agenda and not be disingenuous about fiscal matters, and they couldn't do either. I'm not holding my breath for '14, but I sincerely hope they can get their shit together.

Taking nothing away from Jindel. He is a good governor, however he has reached his "Peter principle" top of the ladder in politics. Sad but true,IMHO.
Having said that, I have been wrong before - G.W. Bush is a good example. People underestimated his "dumb school boy" persona.
I do not see your point professor?
