  • Senate Votes 68-31 to Allow Debate on Gun Legislation

WASHINGTON — The Senate on Thursday cleared the way for debate on the first piece of major gun-control legislation to be considered in that chamber in two decades.

With families of victims of the Newtown, Conn., massacre watching silently from the chamber, the Senate thwarted a threatened filibuster with a vote of 68 to 31 and will proceed next week to debate a package of legislation that would expand background checks for gun buyers and increase the penalties for criminal sales, in addition to a variety of other amendments. Those include the renewal of the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004.

Twenty-nine Republicans voted against the measure, as did two Democrats. Sixteen Republicans joined 52 Democrats in voting to cut off the debate.

The Senate as a whole fits that description (one notable exception being freshman Sen. Ted Cruz of course).

Ted Cruz might be OK, but he KNEW before the vote how it was going to go. With that the case, he could blow his horn and beat his chest all he wanted since it meant nothing. I wonder how he would have voted if the vote was tied, and his was the deciding vote. They are all alike. There is not a pair of balls in the Senate. Hell, the women have bigger ones. Just wait till the immigration vote comes up. Then, just watch "Cruz" and "Rubio". That vote will bring the milk down.

Do you think they voted yes so they could own them in a debate AGAINST Gun Control, on the record?

Control. Clearly, they voted yes because they want to be the target for an armed uprising.

Local news mentioned a bit about it and showed a clip of senator Tom Cornyn speaking on the floor openly against it.
