Both of the women Marine Corps Second Lieutenants who voluntarily enrolled in the basic Marine Corps Infantry Officer Course (IOC) were summarily dropped from the course during the first training day, as reported by The New York Times on March 29, 2013.

The two unidentified Marine Second Lieutenants were dismissed day one of the training schedule for failing the initial Combat Endurance Test, which as the title relates, gauges a potential infantry officer's both physical and mental endurance to the rigors of combat.

As the Business Insider described the IOC:

"The Marine Corps Infantry Officer Course is a grueling unapologetic machine, producing only a few hundred elite, light infantry officers per year."

Thus far, only four female newly commissioned Marine Second Lieutenants have volunteered for the infantry since the Obama Administration allowed women to serve in direct combat Military Occupational Specialties (MOSs).

Of the two females who failed the most recent IOC, two others were enrolled last year.

Both of last year's women officers also flunked out of the course that would qualify a graduate as a basic infantry officer.

The failure rate for male Marines is roughly 20 percent.

The failure rate for female Marines remains at a steady 100 percent.

Just like when WH and the Navy wanted more SEALS in 2011/12, you can not water down training that is so directly linked to combat action. The violence will be the same despite gender so you either can face it and succeed or you don't.

But at the same time, ensure that your training does not change to make it harder either. Rorke Denver was a Lt in charge of SEAL training BUD/S and when the Navy came down with "graduate more SEALS" the instructors kicked back and increased the training to point of injuring men at a faster rate. End result, same amount graduated but the rate of injuries spiked. The same injured men would have DOR on their own had nothing changed in the course. Just all around a bad situation but it is human nature to resist directions you don't agree with.

Let them (females) try it out. If they are tough enough and can handle the stress and enviroment, what is the real problem.

i think women on the frontline is a horrible idea. 200 horny marines in a war zone with a couple of chicks right beside them is probably not the best idea. there is no easy way of saying it, so i will just say it. they are gonna get fucked. they are gonna get fucked hard. no matter how many good marines are out there that would never rape a woman, there are a few that would. if you put her in with the grunts, she better look and smell like a grunt. and also, there is a shit ton of macho bravado going on and if a woman opens her mouth and acts tough to the wrong jarhead, she is gonna swallow some teeth followed by a dirty dick.

i had one female in my platoon and loved having her around. she was uglier than a mud fence and didnt try to put on any bullshit. she finished last in every run or pt we did. but she was laid back and cool and was basically one of the guys. that is fine for a wing support area like i was in, but on the frontline, she would have cost lives.

Sad reality is, there is not a base in Afghanistan that is men only right now. A small OP or hill top COP that they abandon routinely only to fight again, maybe. I have been to a lot of bases out here and you couldn't swing a stick without hitting some chick in the army or air force. There were on the gates, in the towers, acting as MPs and QRF etc.
