Did anyone watch that movie on Showtime? The World Accoring to Dick CHeney. I think he feels he made no mistakes in any of his time in the office.

I believe the Iraq war wasn't a complete mistake, but I also believe the execution of the whole thing was poorly managed.

I don't disagree with that either. But due to politicians, the rules of engagement make any war impossible to win. It's fucking war. It's not puppy kisses and rainbow tea time. People die.

That is all true and most people know that. So why go into a war without an exit strategy and prolong it for 10 years? They knew going in it wasn't going to be over right after SH was captured. I guess they didn't expect a large part of the population to oppose our decisions when we were there. That is pretty bad logic, IMO.

The soldier who wrote the letter has a right to his opinion. He sacrificed a lot for his right to that opinion. But opinions aren't facts.

I agree. We should have bombed the fuck out of Iraq, not worrying about collateral damage. But that doesn't exactly give people the warm fuzzies, and doesn't look good on CNN 24/7. So, what the next best option?

I still think we should kill and destroy any place we're sent in to fight. Iraq? Smoking crater. Afghanistan? Desolate wasteland with zero life. Iran? Kill everything breathing. Fuck nation building. If the UN wants to do that, let them but we suck at it. Either fight a war or play hugs and kisses. Special forces and infantry suck at hugs and kisses but kick ass in war.

If you want peace, prepare for war. And not some lame attempt of acting like we are at war. War on a scale that no one can question whether their society would survive a conflict against us. That is how you prevent some wars. Others you have to be as quick and thorough as possible so that you can return to peace. That's how I think our country should operate.

I did read the letter. The last part of my comment was based on people that I served with. I joined after 9/11 also and we were in a war. But, there were still some guys in waiting to get out "because they didn't join the army to fight". This guy just couldn't take what he signed up for.
