  • Obama Sequester Douchebaggery

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration hit a sour note by canceling a traditional Marine Corps Band performance yesterday at the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Rocky Point, NY, blaming “sequestration” budget cuts.

“We’re political pawns,” fumed Joe Cognitore, commander of the Rocky Point VFW Post, which co-sponsored the parade.

I don't get how this would cost anything at all. The band is already there, they have their own instruments and uniforms, are already paid and the vehicles in the motorpool already have fuel. What actually costs more to perform?

If I have gas in my car, it doesn't cost me anything to drive?

If the gas was already paid for by the company that you work for to go do the job in which you were employed to do, nope it doesn't cost you anything.

But if I don't drive and I save that gas for my next trip, I've saved them money!

His little golf outing would have paid for the White House tours for the entire summer. He's an elitist douche-bag.

Considering the fact that the fuel for those vehicles has already been paid for for the year? No, it doesn't. This was a douche bag move to make the sequester more public. Almost as bad as when he had the Marines in his inauguration remove their bolts.

                    Close. Canceling Easter.

The next casualty of sequestration could be the Easter Bunny – at least according to a White House e-mail that recently landed in Capitol Hill inboxes.

The White House warned Congress that budget uncertainties could nix the annual Easter Egg Roll for kids, which is planned for April 1.

“[B]y using these tickets, guests are acknowledging that this event is subject to cancellation due to funding uncertainty surrounding the Executive Office of the President and other federal agencies,” the White House cautioned, according to two Capitol Hill sources who provided the language. “If cancelled, the event will not be rescheduled.”

White House press secretary Jay Carney said last week that the egg roll would go forward, although he left open the possibility that that could change. (Update: A White House official said Monday that the egg roll is still going forward. More below.)

The administration has faced a backlash from Congress – and late-night comics – for canceling tours of the White House to save money as part of the $85 billion in automatic budget cuts, known as sequestration, that went into effect March 1. And there has also been criticism that the Easter Egg roll would go forward while the tours would not.

On Friday, Carney got into a contentious back-and-forth on Fox News and said the egg roll is for a lot of military families and it's paid for by the sale of ceremonial eggs and outside donations. "It’s a totally different budget," he said. "These are apples and oranges."

The president and other White House officials have placed the blame for tour cancellation at the feet of the Secret Service, which controls security for the self-guided tours.

But the White House has been advertising the Easter Egg Roll as an extension of First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” youth health initiative, making it seem an unlikely candidate for the budget ax.

Indeed, the White House has a whole page on its website devoted to the Easter Egg Roll, which is expected to draw 35,000 participants in its 135th year.

(Also on POLITICO: Pendleton family invited to Easter Egg Roll)

The first lady’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether the event might be canceled or why ticket-holders were cautioned about sequestration.

UPDATE (Monday, 3:48 p.m.): A White House official emails this response: "Because we distribute tickets to the Easter Egg Roll far in advance, we alerted all ticket holders that this event is subject to cancellation due to funding uncertainty, including the possibility of a government shutdown. However, we are currently proceeding as planned with the Easter Egg Roll."

Donovan Slack contributed to this report.

This whole administration is a long line of socialist a-holes and douchebags who "lash out" when they don't get their way like a 3 year old.

Doesn't everyone just LOVE the thought of 4 more years of this?

                      What a fucking joke....

I say let them throw their fit...the GOP should step up and host the event somewhere else in the community.

Obama wants to play games, then why don’t they jump in and beat him at his game...all they have to do is show they care (sponsor events that the white house states they do not have money for) and that these cuts are not as bad as the other side is playing them off as.

This is what it will come down too, there are too many people in this country willing to listen to the Media. If the GOP does not start playing the game as well, it will just divide us more than what we already are.

Something has to give, because 4 more years of this guys BS...well, it may just be worse than them taking our guns.

That's why they say the liberal party (genre) is based on "emotion". That's exactly how they're acting, like teen-aged girls.

Am I the only one that doesnt care? Our government dollars dont need to be wasted on a band performance or an Easter bunny anything. There is more that the government needs to worry about. This in my mind is money that is wasted on shit we dont need.
