I've read multiple stories, some right here on this board, of military bases digging big assed holes and dozing thousands of new rifles and ammunition and the like into them, then covering them up, so as not to lose a portion of the next years budget. This is the shit that needs to be stopped.

Heard a minute ago even the Blue Angels are being cut. The fucking Blue Angels!

I've never heard of such things. If true, they would need to be stopped - but never have heard of it.

Such things more than likely went on toward the end of WWII as a convenient means of disposal and the story has lived on. Property accountability is much more stringent today.

Say it isn't true that the Blue Angels are being cut.......

The Blues have their C-130 at our unit doing their yearly maint. on Fat Albert. They haven't said anything about them getting shut down.

Edit-It should be noted that training and maint. programs are one of our best assets. We didn't only walk all over the Iraqi Army in the Gulf War because we had better tanks and whatnot, we also did it because we had much better training and maintenance programs.

I'll have to find the article but IIRC we fired basically 10 times the ammo (speaking of tanks here) than the Iraqis did in training. We also had a much better maint. program and our barrels would be replaced when they needed to be replaced and bore-sighted properly. The Iraqis would consistently fire short and it was because their barrels were shot out and warped. Where they were aiming was not where they were hitting.

Frost do you have any clue what the sequester does? It pulls from all areas. While it shouldn't be as weighted on defense as it is, defense still desperately needs to be put in check. The constitution does not give the DoD an open checkbook. Defense should only logically face half of the cuts they are if spending proportions are maintained

You may be right, and I wish I had paid closer attention to those sources as I can't find anything on it now that I need it!

"The Navy’s world-famous airshow squadron will be grounded if scheduled cuts to the Defense budget hit on March 1, The Washington Times reported Wednesday.

According to an “internal Navy memo” obtained by the news organization, the Blue Angels are prepared to halt their famous aerobatics:

With military concern about budget cuts set to hit the Pentagon and federal government March 1 reaching a crescendo, the Navy is prepared to ground the famous squadron for the second half of the 2013, according to an internal Navy memo."

That would suck, as I and my boys love seeing them fly...

I have seen ammunition buried, I have seen ranges where at the end of the day you go out and just blow through all the rest of the ammo. It is more difficult to turn in an open case of ammo then a sealed case. If it is open they want every round hand counted. It is not soldiers deciding to waste it, it is the leadership. I was on one pistol range where I personally fired well over 500 rounds at the end of the day, multiply that by a dozen or so of us and you have a crazy amount that was wasted. But that example was fun so I am not complaining about that...

I'm a war vet myself, so I can see both sides of the issue....

But ALL federal entitlement programs and departments of the federal government need to be trimmed, including defense.....

It is up to the Pentagon to make smart choices into what gets trimmed and to stop the waste we've all seen from time to time.

(That's what we pay them for...)

Exactly. We used to let the navy shoot our ammo on ship just because the armory didn't want to count it. Same thing with grenades and HE. I remember being at Ft AP Hill and throwing grenades until it was almost boring.... Maintenance is no better. They would tear shit up beyond being fixed just to send it back to depot level repair. That mentality exist at all levels and is promoted by the leadership.

Never seen bury...we sometimes would do that too. I won't lie, as a REMF that free fire times were really nice because you could do things that normally were not allowed. I learned a lot with those, because at least with us they still wanted on some target or set of targets. Maybe throw on pro mask...etc...etc. It was still technically training, just outside of the book a little.

I absolutely know what sequester does. It draws HALF of it's cuts from defense which accounts for 25% of the entire budget. If you're cutting, you at least have to make it even which means defense is 1/4 of the budget, thus (buying into liberal talking points) it should bear 25% of the burden. Not half.

The Constitution doesn't give DoD an open checkbook, you're right. What it DOES say is that defense and post office are REQUIREMENTS. Unless something else is a requirement, it should be cut 100% before those two are.

this is one if the dumbest things I've ever heard a constitutionalist say and believing that is an embarrassment to anyone that truley supports this country.

If defense spending is out of hand, other measures should not have to be eliminated just to get defense spending under control.

It may be "dumb" but he is correct, by law they are the LAST things to get cut.

You can say it's dumb, but it's 100% correct. The Constitution is clear on the requirements of the federal government and if there's deficit, every dime from every unconstitutional department and agency should be removed before you even look at defense.
