Reid has always had the backing of the NRA, I think he is putting it on the floor expecting it to be put down. If it fails he said he put it on the floor to see what the American people want and then the administration will try gun control through the UN. Gun control is too toxic for most politicians. They can deny having any part of a gun ban. Plus if they vote on this early most voters will forget before 2014.Comment

Feinstein is in front of the senate as we speak, with her parade of speakers/supporters to testify. She is seeking MUCH more stringent controls than first thought, and much more than Clinton got in the '94 ban. She wants handguns and shotguns covered, along with many other items on her agenda. The democratic strategists' say this is the perfect time to pull this off, because so much is going on with Benghazi, campus shootings, the John Kerry move to Secretary of State.Comment

Introducing an assault weapons ban in the Senate Thursday, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) said that the purpose of the ban is to "dry up the supply of these weapons over time" rather than take guns away from those who already have them.
"We have tried to recognize legal defense rights," Feinstein said. "We have tried to recognize the right of a citizen to legally possess a weapon. No weapon is taken from anyone. The purpose is to dry up the supply of these weapons over time. Therefore, there is no sunset on this bill."

They need several votes to break any filibuster in the Senate. There will be at least a few pro gun Democrats that won't support this. There is almost no chance of this getting through the House.
But there is still a chance.... even if it is a very small one... Reid has said he will allow amendments. The bill will change, but those changes open the possibility of passage..Comment
