Looks as a tax credit to be used 1/2 the turn in year and the other 1/2 the following year. There is no definition of a weapon other than what is in ATF as the serial numbered receiver.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

            (3) Denial of double benefit.--The taxpayer may elect the
application of this section with respect to only 1 weapon, and
if such election is made for any taxable year, no deduction
shall be allowed under any other provision of this chapter with
respect to the surrender or contribution of the specified
            assault weapon.

I am a little rusty on lawyer double talk but are they saying that if you keep 1 and turn in however many you cannot take the deduction for any turned in?
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

That's how I'm reading it. And it has to be an 'assault weapon' and you have to sign papers turning it over. You can turn in however many you want but you get credit for 1 and that 1 has to be split over 2 years

                  `(b) Special Rules.--
``(1) Weapon must be lawfully possessed.--No credit shall
be allowed under subsection (a) with respect to any specified
assault weapon not lawfully possessed by the taxpayer at the
                  time the weapon is surrendered.
Beyond the stupidity of the law itself, this stands out as especially stupid..

So you only want law abiding citizens to turn in these weapons. Who gives a fuck if a criminal turns it in. They can keep them...

I know it is kinda pointless because I'm doubtful most criminals file taxes anyways. It could also encourage theft of legally owned weapons. However, why would they care if there end goal is to get these weapons off the street.

Just friggin madness. Thankfully this bill is DoA since it originated in the House.

Someone needs to start a This-Shit-Ain't-Gonna-Help-Gun-Violence-At-All-You-Dumb-Motherfuckers Act.

Does this also include a life insurance benefit for those confiscating said weapons?

That will be the next bill. This one is evidently pertaining to voluntary submission.

Can you serialize a potato cannon? one thousand a year for two years isn't much, but it could help...
