Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, & our nation was the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world.

Cigarette and gasoline taxes don't bother me in the least. Those who use either pay according to their consumption. Also neither of those were commercially marketed in a widespread manner 100 years ago, so of course there wasn't a federal tax on them then.

This all started when America started to feed the homeless and handed out trophies for participation. Down hill since.

The 2 that I have the most problem with are the vehicle sales tax, I do not see how they can legally collect taxes every time the item is sold, should only apply to a new vehicle... and the inheritance tax (death tax) The thought of the Gov thinking they are entitled to half of someone's estate just because they say so really pisses me off.

100 years ago there were not many/no paved roads, 3+ lane roads...etc...etc. There is SOME upside to modern living that .gov runs.

There also was not much/any welfare and all that junk too. Plenty goes to waste, but hard to compare apples to apple from then to now. Plenty of bullshit taxes too.

My grandmother told me a few years back before she passed that when she was young they only had Federal Tax. She said also said she didnt think America had 20 years left before it collapsed & the Goverment took over everything
