  • Nancy Pelosi coins a new term for gun control

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has adopted a new term for gun control, “gun violence prevention,” in hopes that the euphemism will make it easier to marshal public opinion in favor of new gun laws as well as other policies designed to prevent shootings.

“If we come out of the Newtown experience and all we do is talk about it and not have a result,” Pelosi told The New York Times, “that would be a dereliction of duty on the part of us in public office. We must find a place where we can come to agreement on this.”

The paper added that “Pelosi said Democrats are no longer talking about gun control but refer instead to what she calls gun violence prevention — an effort by Democrats and their allies to find a less politically charged term, one that suggests a broader range of approaches beyond simply gun regulation.”

Vice President Joe Biden is working on giving detail to that broad range of approaches. “It’s a complex problem that requires more than one solution,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said after the shooting in Connecticut. “It calls for not only re-examining our gun laws and how well we enforce them, but also for engaging mental health professionals, law enforcement officials, educators, parents and communities to find those solutions.”

The gun control push is as robust as ever, though. The New York Magazine noted that “Carney did add that Obama is ‘actively supportive’ of an assault-weapon ban, as well as closing gun-show loopholes, and “‘wants to move in the coming weeks.’”

I thought this was going to be her defining what "assault magazines" are.

Well, if Joe wants to grant more abilities to medical professionals then they'll have a little issue with a previously pushed through agenda. Wouldn't it be cool to see that shit repealed from their delusional way of life?

Affordable Care Act Title X, page 2,037, Line 23

I copypasta'd a snippet from a Forbes article that relays a little bit of info on the subject matter.

In the Affordable Care Act, the gun lobby’s section is in Title X, starting on page 2,037, line 23. “Protection of Second Amendment Gun Rights” contains five provisions mostly dedicated to shutting down conversation about guns in medicine. What do these sections contain?

Wellness and prevention programs may not require the disclosure or collection of information relating to the presence or storage of a lawfully possessed firearm or the use of a firearm. At least the law didn’t say we couldn’t ask about it, we just have to do it clandestinely.

The next provision states we can’t collect data related to owning or using firearms. So we can’t write it down? Sounds like an effective way to stifle research related to gun violence so we can no longer prove that easier access to guns increases the risk of mass violence.

Provision three states we can’t use or maintain records of individual ownership or possession of firearms or ammunition. I’m fine with that not being allowed in medicine, but that information should be tracked somewhere. A person amassing an arsenal should raise an eyebrow.

Provision four limits the ability to determine rates or eligibility for health insurance based on gun ownership. Now why is that even in there? Title I of the ACA states that insurance will be guaranteed issue so no one can be turned down. Even if they own enough guns to hunt every squirrel in the United States, they will qualify for health insurance. Just so the gun owners have the correct information, rates are based on only four factors – age, location, number of family members, and smoking status. Wait – guns smoke, so maybe they thought that was meant for gun owners.

The final provision related to gun owners is that individuals do not have to disclose they own a gun. We know you can’t make people tell the truth, but fortunately most people in the throes of mental anguish and considering violence will tell the truth when asked.

Why should an arsenal raise an eyebrow? Unless a mental health professional is going to force himself into my home and do a room by room search, bypassing locks, they don't need to know I'm armed

I had a discussion with someone a few weeks ago, my idea is that mental illness will be the next way for the government to legally disarm people, completely circumventing the 2nd Amendment rights. If you are deemed mentally ill, you can be disarmed and can never possess arms again. It only takes an opinion from a doctor to deem you mentally ill, and there really isn't much you can do about it. If a doctor states your opinions about the current governmental regime are a sign of mental illness, there goes your rights. With all the talk about the mass murderers being mentally ill, I can see the requirements (or whatever it called) for a doctor to deem someone mentally ill to be lessened.

I'm doing my part. I've prevented every single gun I own from causing any violence.

All of mine melted in a freak accident while welding hinges on the safe. I took the hunk of metal to the scarp yard.

Precisely. Especially since the DSM 5 makes every emotion a mental illness.

You know, it is hilarious watching democrats seek out the stupid and uninformed through manipulation.

                          Step 1 destroy education system.
                          Step 2 exploit the uneducated.

I had to google that, you are right, everything under the sun is listed in there. We cannot surf porn and jack off frequently, or even be passive-aggressive anymore without being labeled mentally ill.

Now I'm paranoid... damn, that is in there too.
