    Skimmed the thread

I dont see anybody addressing the fact that the most recent shooting was by somebody who is reported to have mental health issues by his own brother. Maybe its time to revise the specifics of the current laws so somebody with mental health issues who can be a danger to others must be identified to the police and FBI. As well addressing the laws so such a person doesnt have access to firearms especially those within the same household.

So encase the schools in bullet proof glass and prison style doors?

Absolutely. The mother should not have been allowed to have any weapons in her house at all since she had an autistic child.

Sounds oh so reasonable. "You no longer have the constitutional right to defend yourself since your child is MR."

      I buy it.

While it's not going to be a common occurance it places an an unnecessary risk in the classroom.
Locked desk drawer, or they have to keep it on them at all times. Simple.

edit:What does my screen name have to do with wanting security in schools? That has nothing to do with freedom. You would spend money on mental illness screening which would cost way more than more security for schools.
I can answer this: You're saying live free or die, yet calling for militarization of our schools by the military. You're also calling for hundreds of thousands of new cops and security being hired to police the schools in case an abnormality occurs. That means paying at least one, probably two or three cops to work only in that school, 5 days a week, 8 hours plus a day with pay and benefits when schools are laying off teachers because they can't afford them.

It'd be like Pelosi claiming to be a Catholic and then being pro abortion. Makes no sense

Sure, the school he broke into required people to be buzzed in so why not make those glass doors he broke using 1" thick bulletproof glass? Im not saying make it a supermax prison but make it tougher to get in.

Yes in a perfect scenario, again it would only take one accident, or a teenager overpowering a teacher with her back turned, because they knew she had a gun on her, and decided they wanted it.

I'm not saying I have carried at work....

I did talk to the head of security, who is now the head of Ross Perots personal security when he was there, and his comment to me was, 'its against company policy is my official stance, but in a case where you could chose to lose you job or life, for me that's a simple choice. Just don't ever tell me your decision to carry here.'
Shit, I work for a gun nut, both of us carry and weapons are in several places in the shop(out of sight). There is only one way in, property is fenced and security cameras are on all the time. So, could someone come in an rob the place or shoot it up? Sure, but they more than likely will die trying it.

I was going to punch you in the head for agreeing but then I finished your post. Once you open that can of worms, then all it takes is a shrink or doctor to declare your child is X, or Y, or Z and you are defacto not allowed to own a weapon because of your child. With the new DSM 5 coming out, they are making EVERYTHING a mental disorder.

Okay, biometric locked safe in her desk. Only her hand will open it and only she has access. Fixed. Total cost? Couple hundred bucks.

So a kid knocks out the teacher and drags her to the biometric safe

I'm all for allowing teachers with a chl to carry, but when every student knows there's a gun in every classroom, it's only a matter of time before a kid gets a wild hair to try and get the gun.

These kids who are going to overpower a teacher, knock her out, drag her unconscious body over to her desk, use her key to open the drawer and then use her hand to open a biometric lock are the kind of kids who aren't going to bother and are going to pick up a Saturday night special and shoot everyone anyway.

As you know kids would overpower the teachers.
