We need to equip our forces with the best tech on the planet and other countries are increasing their abilities while we're not. We're in trouble.
During OIF in 2003 for the initial invasion we were issued Frag grenades from 1950s (53 if I remember correctly) and incendiary grenades were from the 60s. We were using the incendiary grenades one day and there was no delay at all on the fuze. When the spoon was released they ignited instantly. I would not have tried our frags after seeing that.

They didn't even give us frags because they were terrified we'd use it. Same with the 203's. Our ammo came from crates that had been stored since the 70's and we even had one guy whose weapon was deadlined so they actually handed him a M79. Not even playing. That was his primary weapon. Keep in mind, they didn't give us any 40mm so...

What were they supposed to do? Yell "Bang?" In our unit weapons would have been borrowed from the rear echelon MFs

I have no idea. That's how we got to Iraq. Every weapon was deadlined except for mine because I bought aftermarket parts to keep it up

Munitions are used FIFO just like the Beans. We (the US) have quite the stockpile of munitions.

As far as new equipment not making it to the battle field it is kind of the same thing. Units were arriving to Afghanistan having had trained and been assigned to M777 155mm guns only to get their assigned AO and find a 60yr old 155mm howitzer waiting on them. It was 2010 before I saw a M777 on a camp in Afghanistan.

Hell even most of the M4 rifles used today started out as M16A1/2 guns. Few new parts and a few minutes in the armory and you have an M4.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

So you are saying the military actually uses every bit of what they bought; not being wasteful? Yet they get the boot in the gut of cuts. I agree with Frost, if you don't have the replacement, you shouldn't get rid of it.

Oh no, they still waste the fuck out of stuff.

Guys... This post is basically about an aircraft carrier that did her duty for 51 years.

The Big E is inactive. I personally was not even born when it had the big fire, had the stand off around Cuba, and all the actions afterwards.

I never served/seen/walked/on this ship, yet I still think that this ship was the best ever built. Well, my favorite.
                    Some cars and a bike...

Some say... they have been raced, some a lot

Quite a few people agree with you SC. We shouldn't have even said we were shutting her down until another ship was ready to roll in her place

I heard the number was like 26. Something like we spend more on our military than the next 26 countries combined, and 25 of those 26 are our allies.

I really don't know if that is accurate, just throwing out some shit I heard or read recently. So, take it with a grain of salt.

When you're the big kid on the block, you have to have the biggest military budget. Canada relies on us for defense and so does Mexico to a point. Same with Japan because we forbid them a military, and Germany. We SHOULD have the best and most advanced tech and should use it. Enterprise was our flagship. Now what is?

                                The article above said 9.

                                I figure it's "about 9".
