  • Ny York Times article..

Read if you want, but it involves Bush am=nd the USPS

In 2002, it was discovered that the Postal Service was wildly overpaying its retirement obligations to the tune of $71 billion. Not surprisingly, it soon began advocating for ways to use some of that excess. One bill passed that did almost nothing to solve the problem. Later bills that would have fixed the problem, however, all ran into the same stumbling block: they would have ostensibly added to the deficit. And the Bush administration was adamant that it would veto any bill that wasn’t deficit-neutral.

Naynay told me the other day that if I pay higher taxes I would be "juicing the economy". So he probably doesn't even know what a deficit is. I think my five year old understands more about economics.

As for the subject of the article. I'd submit the idea that maybe, just MAYBE the post office should have raised prices or *GASP* not promised its workers so much. I know it is crazy to suggest that the government just spend less so call me nuts.

I'm thinking that if the military is being cut and our pay and benefits are getting the axe because "we're being paid more than our civilian counterparts (what civilian counterpart to an infantryman?)" then the post office needs the same as does EVERY federal union bastard there is. Hell, even that commie FDR didn't like public unions

Really? They aren't teaching about FDR and internment any longer?

He rounded up Italians, Japanese and German American citizens and carted them off to concentration camps for the duration of the war. They lost everything they had and it took 40 years for them to get the piddly 20k as reparation. And not everyone got it, only those who somehow had detailed financial statements and lists of property that was confiscated when they were kidnapped.

I thought everyone knew about that.

The xenophopic mindset of the country then probably demanded that such harsh measures be taken, so it's not just FDR himself that was to blame.

Doesn't matter what was demanded. He signed an executive order to do it, it's all his blame.
