RMV Worker Charged In Illegal Immigrant License Scam

WATERTOWN (CBS) – A woman who works for the Registry of Motor Vehicles is in federal custody and faces a 27-count indictment in an alleged scheme involving using her position at the RMV to defraud illegal immigrants.

The District Attorney’s office says Adriana Ferreira, 48, of Brighton was arrested in Watertown. She’s accused of promising driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants in exchange for a $2,000 fee.

Officials say those illegal aliens never received the licenses Ferreira promised, and when some of them complained, she threatened to report them to immigration officials.

Ferreira also allegedly claimed to have contact with an immigration official who could delay an illegal alien’s deportations for a fee. Investigators say Ferreira had no such contact.

Federal, state, and local authorities were all involved in the investigation, which began in March 2011.

Ferreira faces corruption, bribery and larceny charges in that 27-count indictment.

The exact charges include five counts of larceny by false pretenses, four counts of attempted larceny by false pretenses, 14 counts of bribery and corrupt bribery, and four counts of conspiracy to commit RMV fraud.

MassDOT said in a statement it is initiating disciplinary proceedings against Ferreira.

“The Registry of Motor Vehicles has zero tolerance for any behavior that compromises the integrity of our operations or intimidates our customers,” Sara Lavoie, MassDOT Press Secretary said in the statement. “We work strongly and collaboratively with law enforcement. The RMV will continue to allow these agencies the access that they need to uncover and prosecute any illegal activity within our branches.”

Ferreira has worked at the Registry of Motor Vehicles since August 29, 2010.

You execute anyone engaging in it and make it so prohibitive to do it that if you are caught doing it, you KNOW what the penalty is going to be, and it'll die out. It takes years if not more and thousands of dollars to solve identity theft when the bad guy is discovered and they in general, have dozens of identities to use. Remove them completely, offer to change the social security number of the victim and set them up and hell, you want to be civilized? Let the victim decide the punishment. They were wronged, it's their lives, livelihood, time, money and jobs at stake let them decide the punishment

Luckily we don't allow such things. If it were up to you, someone could step foot on your property, not damaging anything, not bothering anything, and you'd blast them without remorse.

I think there are plenty of other horrendous crimes that need to be cracked down on first. You know, the ones who leave people without children, parents, relatives, and friends. Sure, something needs to be done about identity theft. But murder is a bit much. You're also trusting the same clowns that can't get addresses on drug warrants right, to carry this all out.

Now if you want to focus on setting up sniper nests on the border first, and shoot anyone who crosses other than at a legal checkpoint, I am for that, but since the government wants to turn a blind eye to that problem then lets just move on to shooting identity thieves. Yeah, the Death Penalty sure has slowed down the murder rates in TX... [/sarcasm].

Rapists may get long sentences, but they don't serve it all, and the newest data I can find on sentencing is from 92. But obviously punishment isn't stiff enough, when one in eight women in TX are victims of rape.
