I had a closed campus but snuck out a few times my sophomore year. Then I got caught on September 12, 2001 and got a lengthy lecture about "no-fly zones" and dumb decisions and a week of detention.

It's in their student ID but the school is saying it's only tracked inside the school walls. What they neglect to mention is anyone with an RDFI reader who is within 20 feet of you can scan your ID and find out your name, age, where you live and so forth. Makes kidnapping SOOO much easier

Bingo. RDFI readers. They also work great on passports in an airport unless you're nuts like me and stick your passport in a microwave for 3 seconds to fry the chip

Martin had open campus when I was there, Kennedale you had to earn off campus lunch, but was still easy to get out.

Hell at Gunn Jr High my parents signed a form where I could walk home for lunch.

Now as I go to my Step kids school, you get back ground checks and DL scanned to be a visitor.

A couple years ago i setup an RFID antenna array for a client who was using it to inventory through their warehouse. Had a few omni directional antennas and two directionals. The array wasnt much, maybe 1 to 2 watts. We powered it up to test the sample tags (had 5 for our test) and when we started collecting information for the sample set our screens scrolled with information. When i saw my name and and my corp amex card number in PLAIN TEXT show up, i realized how little security these tags had. And i was about 100ft from the nearest antenna.

All someone has to do is set up an antenna array on a car, drive by on the street and they'll start grabbing whatever info you have. To put children ina tracking system like that is bullshit.

Perv packet sniffs the campus, grabs the rfid of the kids
Narrows down the code to a specific student
              Tracks the kid back home
              Tragedy strikes.

Yet we are told that this is nothing to worry about. Nothing I have has a functioning RDFI chip

hmm, this has got me thinking. I know our txdot access badges we use to get in doors has some info on it that limits us to certain areas, wonder how much. I do know all that is inside is a strip of copper.

I would guess that the only thing your badge has is an ID code, and the real information is stored elsewhere.

During highschool and college I was at boarding schools. Fortunately I was "village" during HS and was able to actually have a life. Through college there was a curfew. I think male upperclassmen were allowed to be out until 2 and under was midnight. I think all female, regardless of year had to be in either at midnight or 11. Can't remember. I was able to get around that by having a night job so whenever I went out the dean always thought I was going to work.

It seems like an easily defeatable system. Just give your ID card to one of your buddies.

It seems it would be easier for teachers to take attendence like they have for a hundred years. They just enter it on their computer and an absence is recorded in the schools database. Then the truancy officer is alerted. You get the same result and no contraversy.
