The Victoria’s Secret show must go on — even if it means kicking out hardworking men and women in uniform.

Dozens of National Guardsmen, and Army and Air Force personnel who have been sleeping at Manhattan’s Lexington Armory in between hurricane-relief shifts are being booted — to make room for Victoria’s Secret models in anticipation of Wednesday’s runway show.

About 300 uniformed personnel have been bunking down at the armory at various times since Sandy hit.

But their numbers will be reduced to 60 by Wednesday for the event, which is featuring Rihanna and Justin Bieber.

The military workers will be relocated to the Jacob Javits Center, Harlem Armory and hotels such as the Marriott East Side and Ramada East Side — where they’ll bunk five to 10 per room on the government’s dime, sources said.

“It’s going to be tight. It’s not ideal,’’ said one Air National Guardsman.

Last night, about 150 of the personnel were crammed into a space meant for 50 as Victora’s Secret workers moved in equipment and set up temporary dressing rooms.

A massive transformer generator was being brought in for the show, and a huge Sony video board was hauled to the site.

The military workers will be allowed to return to their armory digs on Thursday.

These guardsmen were staying there more than likely with no power. However Victoria's Secret comes in, THEN power is hooked up.

They were there because VS had generators in place for the show. VS lent the generators to the guards so they would have power

The current mayor is Michael Bloomberg, elected as a Republican in 2001, re-elected in 2005 with 59% of the vote, and elected to a third term in 2009 with 50.4%. He is known for taking control of the city's education system from the state, rezoning and economic development, fiscal management, and public health policy. In his second term he made school reform and strict gun control central priorities of his administration. On June 19, 2007, he filed papers to leave the Republican Party,[citation needed] thus becoming an independent.
got that from wiki, he had (R) on his ticket all three times he was elected, so i dont even know how to argue the fact..

The National Guard contacted the fashion show’s crew on Oct. 30, and they promptly came over and cranked up the generators to provide the century-old building with heat, lighting, hot water, enough electricity to power the elevators, and Internet service to assist in rescue and recovery efforts.

The soldiers also borrowed a forklift to help unload food from tractor trailers sent by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to help distribute to those in need.

“Victoria’s Secret was an absolute lifesaver just by the sheer nature of their generosity,’’ Col. Richard Goldenberg, the spokesperson for the New York National Guard, told TODAY.com.

The unlikely partnership has been a source of amusement to the public as the Northeast tries to recover from the storm.

"No one handles logistics better than those practiced at keeping 20 supermodels in equal star billing,'' one commenter wrote on New York Magazine's website.

"Victoria's Secret has been promoting 'support' for a long time. Now's the pay off,'' another commenter cracked.

The fashion show is now set for Nov. 7, and two-thirds of the approximate 300 uniformed National Guard personnel at the Armory have been moved to local hotels in the area, according to Goldenberg. The armory is not a barracks intended for housing purposes and had just become a makeshift one because of the storm.

“Now that the power is back on in Manhattan, our focus is moving away from there and to other areas like Brooklyn and Staten Island for debris removal and distribution of rations," Goldenberg said. "We’re more than happy to give (Victoria’s Secret) the space that they planned to use. Part of the business of lower Manhattan, frankly, is fashion shows, so if that is part of getting New York City back to normal, we’re supportive of that.’’

Thanks to Victoria’s Secret providing a central location for operations during the immediate aftermath of the storm, the New York Army National Guardsmen helped distribute food, evacuated patients from Bellevue Hospital and hauled diesel fuel up 13 floors to keep the hospital’s generator running. They also carried 120-pound battery packs to rooftops to restore cell service, according to a report by Wired magazine.

Two sides to every story I guess

When Superstorm Sandy hit the Northeast last week, soldiers with the New York Army National Guard's 69th Infantry regiment quickly found themselves in the same situation as the people they were trying to help—without electricity or hot water, stuck in the city, supplies quickly dwindling.

But the guardsmen, who usually act as angels to others during a national disaster, had an unusual guardian angel of their own.

"We were dead in the water until Victoria's Secret showed up," Captain Brendan Gendron, the Regiment's operations officer, told Wired magazine.

Victoria's Secret is slated to hold its annual fashion show at the New York Army National Guard's historic armory on 25th Street and Lexington in Manhattan on Wednesday, and producers were already in town to prep for the televised event when the storm hit. They had eight 500-kilowatt generators with them, and they were happy to put them to good use. Soon, the soldiers had power and hot water again.

A few hours later, Victoria's Secret producers figured out a way to restore power to the whole armory.

"They went into the basement and found the main switch connecting the century-old landmark to the lines of Con Edison, the local utility," Wired reported. "The idea was to shut down the connection between Con Ed, then attach the Victoria Secret lines during to the armory's busbar—the long metal strips that conduct electricity to a switchboard. It was a kludge, and it had to be done right: the producers didn't want to fry the building when the local Con Ed substation finally started generating electricity again."

The lingerie company also made sure that the solders' communication systems were up and running, even though local cell towers were still down. Victoria's Secret consulting producer Dave Shapiro had leased a T1 line—a dedicated internet connection—which they let the armory use.

"We plopped two routers in their command center," Shapiro told Wired, "and now they're sitting on our internet backbone."

The Natural Guard is state-funded, not federally funded, and National Guard armories are usually bare-bones storage facilities, not robust military outposts. So when the Federal Emergency Management Agency started bringing tractor-trailers full of emergency supplies for the soldiers to repackage and distribute, the New York National Guard had to turn to the Victoria's Secret crew once more—this time to borrow their fork lift.

But even with soldiers pouring in from other outposts, the fashion show must go on. About 300 soldiers who have been staying at the armory since Sandy blew through town are being displaced so that Victoria's Secret can set up temporary dressing rooms for scantily-clad models and musical guests Rihanna and Justin Bieber, according to the New York Post. The soldiers will be staying five or 10 to a room at the Jacob Javits Center, the Harlem Armory, and a handful of hotels, the newspaper reported.

Victoria's Secret representatives did not immediately respond to Yahoo! Shine's request for comment, but they told Fashionista that the guardsmen's temporary relocation was planned long ago—the lingerie company isn't kicking the soldiers out.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.
