how can you say that? the UA builds green buildings and clean rooms all across the country.. at least when you say unions explain if you are talking about qualified craftsmen, or janitors who decided to form a club..

you mean to tell me a millwright is a lazy sob who doesnt know what the fuck he/she is doing??

a boilermaker/steam fitter, is just a dense pud?

a high purity orbital welder is just a sock monkey with low standards? get real, and you can figure out how to get paid.

There was a time when unions were useful, that was when there were major laws being broken and laborers being treated like shit. That was 50 years ago. I think with minimum wage, and all of the EEOC laws in effect today the unions have no bearing except to make people lazy and take advantage of the system. We aren't running sweat shops here, there's no need. If someone is qualified for a job they should get it, if they deserve a raise, they should get it. If they don't agree or don't like the job, then get a new one! Right to work > Union.

I'm saying you can't fire the lazy slobs because unions protect them. You can't have someone who finished a job clean their workstation on their own without the janitor getting pissed because you're taking 'union work' from him. Fuck unions. They produce nothing.

Every one of those jobs can be done without a union, cheaper, better and more efficiently. Proof? Military isn't union and build shit daily. You see, you can't go to your employer and work out merit pay or a raise. You have to balance your skills with the laziest and most dumbfuck there. Unions don't allow individualism, it's uniformity. Fuck that.

I get paid. Fairly well as a matter of fact. No union required.

This. Creating better cars, planes and everything else. Proof? Look at union anything versus the right to work equivalent. GM vs Toyota. Detroit vs Dallas.

you most definitely can negotiate your own "package" even in the union (my union at least) you can work for one contractor for your entire 30 year career. alot of supervision are on salary, or "salary" that includes a guaranteed 40 hour week, 2 weeks vacation etc.. If you are worth it you will be compensated accordingly.

and fwiw 75% of our membership is ex-military who used to build 'shit' daily. Now they have a real skilled craft.

i only know united association plumbers/pipefitters/steamfitters/boiler makers, etc. so we may be arguing the same point.. i dont even see the point of a teachers union let alone a jonitors union. and I grew up in detroit, i know the auto industry is worthless, BUT it puts food in a lot of families mouths. and a lot of people who came from very little with a little work and determination and at least some drive can make a decent living for themselves..

So they didn't have a 'real skilled craft' before joining a union? Is that what you're going with? I've yet to see a union that can outwork a free market worker. Why? Yall do bare minimum and strike. You won't see right to work people strike. They like getting paid and if they aren't happy, they can work elsewhere

Now tell me, what right does a union have to enter private property and interpose themselves between the property owner and those he employs?

                          it's not michelle_p money but $46 an hour http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_much_d..._new_york_city

vs. alabamas $22 an hour http://www.gobuildalabama.com/trades/

starts to make a little more sense.. now when you put 6 guys in a truck and hotel room, there is money to be made.. especially when there in no work in alabama..

ya'll have to realize that this is what i do for a living, it is my livelihood, i know how the building trades work inside and out. if you think a non union guy walks around on ANY jobsite with his chin in the air trying to call shots you are sorely confused.. they are quiet keep to themselves and wont even look a union man in the eye.. oh and they pay for health care out of their own paychecks LOL

They keep their head down because they're there to do a job and earn a paycheck. And unions have a bad habit of killing, maiming and injuring people who aren't union and work in the same shop, destroying their vehicles and engaging in mafia tactics.

                            Argue I'm wrong.

Those folks are about to get the shit kicked out of them by a huge snow storm. No heat/electricity. I'm thinking they don't really care if a "union guy" alleviates their problem or not.

Christie wrote it off as a misunderstanding but made it clear that if another 'misunderstanding' occurs, he's going to exert executive authority and fuck people up
