  • New Obama ad compares girls losing their virginity to voting for Obama

I have to say when I first heard of this ad, I thought it was pretty stupid and petty for people to be harping on it. But, then I heard the ad. This is just classless in my opinion. Hey Dads, what do you think about this ad? This is an official campaign ad from the Obama administration, not a PAC ad.

“Your first time shouldn’t be with just anybody,” says Dunham. “You wanna do it with a great guy … Someone who really cares about and understands women.”

"When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin
"A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury." -Alexander Fraser Tytler

Besides it being inappropriate, I think it turns women into "silly little girls". Remember, this is aimed at college kids.

What do you guys think about the ad itself? I have trouble disassociating myself with the politics to see how a typical young girl would view that ad. I have a hard time believing it would sway them, because to me it would be pretty obvious how petty and desperate it is. Essentially the ad is saying wouldn't you rather have sex with Obama?

Well white girls love the snickers....

I'm not a dad nor have a daughter, but the ad does seem off.

This is what a female co-worker told me (early 30's, voting Rep), "Its a good message for girls transitioning to womanhood up until the point where she said who she voted for."

Interesting. It just seems classless for the POTUS to pay for this ad and stand behind it. It's just tasteless. This president has a gift for degrading our society on so many levels.

There is so much to snark about with that ad. Something tells me that she's the type that probably remembers more about her first time with a woman than a man. It's definitely targeting the college-aged-women's-lib-slut genre.

On a side note, it's funny to me that I had no problem getting my own birth control prior to 2008.

Thanks TC, I was curious to see if you were gonna chime in. Is birth control that big of a deal to younger females that they would choose to vote in a president for that matter alone?

Damn near every girl I knew when I was in college had parents who's insurance covered them. This was 2000-2004. What a total turd of an ad.

It's because the whole "war on women" conversation is fake, it's entirely disingenuous. If you can't run on your record, you run interference. Can't find a big problem to scare voters? Make one up. This whole issue is manufacturer for Obama, and people like Avery's Dad lap this shit up.

Yeah, just makes me think he is more of an asshole than I already thought.

However, have you talked to the average youth? I would not put it past them to fall for that ad.

Being a slut must run in the Dunham family.

It's all in how the targeted kid has been raised. To me, this ad is dripping with desperation and malice. But, in order to see that you have to have the common sense to see how and why they are appealing to young girls. It's almost like they are attempting to peer pressure girls. You're "super uncool" if you don't vote for Barack. You're a bigot if don't vote for Obama, you're oppressing gays and lesbians so they can't have those weddings you see on TLC.

And what does Politico headline this ad with? "Conservative blogs outraged over new Obama ad."

I don't know about you, but I would find this despicable no matter who ran it. This is where we are now, the kind of ads that would end a campaign in shame just a few years ago.
