Not really. There are people who have based entire value systems on Star Wars and Star Trek. Completely valid and research-able as to their effects on society and science in particular.

And Islam isn't just a religion, it's a political system as well. Just as I say fuck communism, it's also completely relevant to say "Fuck those goat cum swilling, child fucking ass clowns." You know, like my normal rants against democrats.

Edit: It's also a financial system. Do dig the "no interest loans" banks are required to give (check Citibank's new no interest loans in the mid East). Unfortunately, that 'tolerance' and no interest loan thing stops when you're not a Muslim. Then you get gouged

All the more reason to educate them about it. Excellent point.

Knowing about cultures around the world is just as important as everything else. Otherwise you start to raise a bunch of fucking rednecks that dont know anything beyond their county lines. The issue isnt the religion, its ignorance.

Those that bastardize an entire religion and region for the zealots that practice a certain faith are in the exact same camp as those that preach anti-american rhetoric. You are just two sides of the same racist and prejudicial coin.
I do agree. I think if they should teach the truth about those countries' history and their people. Not about their religion. Unfortunately, there is a strong push to do much more than that. They are going with the chance that they can influence even a small number of kids to open their minds to it. Much like they did to our prison population with so many islamic converts in there.

BTW, William Huyet at the beginning of the video is saying the same things as you guys.

If it was facts and figures and brief, well I'll be honest, I still have an issue with it. I fucking hate Islam and don't want it anywhere near my kid unless he's got a rifle and a uniform. I may not be the most impartial judge on this.

I will have no problem removing my kid from a school that tries to brain wash kids by teaching them the "religion of peace"

What's going on in that video is definitely beyond basic fundamentals as it relates to history. In my opinion, spending anymore time on Islam versus any other religion and it's impact on history is wrong. Now if that class was an optional elective class, and there were other religion classes as options, I'm ok with that as an elective for high school students who so choose to take it.

But I believe it is probably more suited as a college level class

I am okay with curriculum including culture NOT religion. But with that said. Teach it biased. Ie: Little Johnny, in this region of the world they like to blow themselves up and get violent for little to no reason. In this other region of the world, they help all these other third world shit holes and try to bring peace and civility amongst people who like to blow themselves up and get violent for little to no reason. Pop quiz in comprehension Little Johnny, which part of the world is the latter?

I would yang my daughter quick as hell from class if they started to teach her religion. Learning the tenants and pillars of Islam is religion just as much as teach Christ died on the cross for the sins of man. As her parent I will introduce her to religion not some biased douche of a teacher.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

Exactly. You teach the pillars of Islam or say anything but that Momo was a child molesting warlord that bastardized a formerly peaceful religion, it's religious studies.

After spending a large part of my life here in this region, mostly Afghanistan, I want my daughter to know what her dad did and where he has been. The only way religion fits in is the fact that the fanatics of Islam believe it is a crusade against them.

One cultural principal I will teach is Pashtunwali (SP?); where you treat guests like family and defend them against harm even to your detriment. I think it is more of a culture than religious believe.

My readings of the Koran brings me to believe that's a cultural thing. As I said, I'm all for facts. However if you start to slant it or bring the Islamic RELIGION into it, big issue

Good god, I agree with Frost! The world has stopped rotating!

Agreed that history and culture can be taught without the teachers personal "spin".

Any religion taught in that depth has no place in schools, especially elementary

schools. However if a student wants to educate him/herself further and peruse the

inner teachings of Islam.....so be it. I personally have no problem with anyone wanting to

                        further their knowledge in anything.

Hell, I knew nothing of any other religion until I got to college and had no problem with that. I researched them of my own volition and knowing what I was doing. That shit should be left up to the family

Don't push it! You just did not go into your usual "Ted Kaczynski" inspired diatribe and alienate 90% of the readers.

                                Just for you Frost.........enjoy!
