Definitely this. It's weird how old manish you become.

That is the only thing that drives my vote. I vote for which ever group I feel will be less intrusive and create less government regulation.

I've voted both sides. However, I have found myself with a more liberal lean the last 8 years or so.

I have been a democrat in the past, but I wouldn't trust Obama to run a fucking McDonald's, much less the whole country. I don't trust Romney in the least, but he has got to be better than Obama.

i didn't really start paying too much attention to politics until early 2005, and then really perked up after hurricane Katrina, with all the shit that was said about GWB.

I've found that while i do not agree with everything republican, i would say i agree with 85% and that is good enough for me.

As for Fox news leaning right...we have CNN,MSNBC, and every other news network leaning left so why shouldn't Fox lean right? The right needs at least a little representation right?

Clinton fucked up because he signed into law something that repealed most of the Glass–Steagall Act which helped to create the mortgage crisis and big(er) banks. He also had sex with a woman in the oval office (OH MAW GAWD)

Bush fucked up because he has Dick Cheney as his Vice President and allowed himself to hold no strong opinions and let all his cabinet force their agenda on his presidency.

Obama fucked up because he was too cocky going into everything and pissed off a bunch of republicans in congress/senate so is getting everything he wants to do cock-blocked.

if everyone stays off my lawn i really don't give a fuck either way what people believe and that's why my TV doesn't come on too much anymore except for sports and tits.

romney can take his bain capital and shove it up his ass. all they want to do is buy companies and ship as much of it overseas. his line about creating jobs is a load of horse shit.

Good thread! The first presidential election I could vote in, was Carter-Reagan in 1980. Gas was starting to go up (to a $1...LOL!), unemployment and inflation were both at double digits, and Iran had 52 of our people held hostage. At 20, I really didn't feel the economic effect so much, but the Iran hostage issue really pissed me off. "Nightline" had Ted Koppel on every night at 10:30 to "update" us on the hostages. It reminded me of being at the dinner table as a kid, watching updates on Viet Nam. Carter made the U.S. look impotent, especially after pulling our athlete's from the olympics. I remember the presidential debates, and how small and silly Carter seemed next to Ronnie.
So, I've voted for a republican POTUS ever since, although I do occasionally vote for a local "old school" democrat. Texas democrats are (for the most part) were a different breed than the yankee liberals, and we forget that Texas was a democrat controlled state for a long time. We've only had 3 republican governor's since the Civil War.

Geor- your post really put's it in a nutshell.

I find it funny that Bush was beat up by the media at every turn and was elected to a second term, but Obama has been sheltered by the media and isnt looking so good.

If the media covered 10% of his antics, he'd be down by 20 points.

This. I lean left on a couple issues (gay marriage, pro choice, etc), but the older I get, the more conservative I get. Liberalism is based on utopian ideologies, as someone else mentioned. When younger, a lot of people are all about those ideologies. Handouts, etc. But when younger you also have no real world experience, and generally don't make good money. Once you hit 30, if you've done things right, you are living comfortably, don't need handouts, and have started to build your wealth. Along with that, you don't want people taking your hard earned money. You've matured more. You've gained more real world experience. You've lost more freedoms. So you begin to lean more right, and the older you get, you get more conservative. For most people anyways.

IMO - people who stay dem later in life, don't have a clear understanding of the Constitution, or are still dependent upon govt assistance in some form or fashion.

I refuse to affiliate with any party, because politics are plain crooked.

I have voted exclusively Repub for president, but I've voted for plenty of Dems when it comes to state/local elections.
