  • Obama asks you to miss meals to contribute

Oh. My. Michelle Obama's latest fundraising email: skip meals to fund Barack's campaign
    Tweet

To paraphrase Michelle Antoinette, "Let them eat cake nothing."

Truly the most bizarre fundraising email ever..

Ann Althouse got an email today from Michelle Obama telling her (and presumably thousands like her) to give up a meal this week and donate the money saved to the Obama re-election campaign.

...Hey Michelle, we’ll all stop eating when YOU DO. You telling anyone to skip meals is like Liza Minnelli lecturing on sobriety.

The actual email reads as follows:

    Ann --

I know your life is full -- with work, or school, or family -- and yet you still find the time to help out when you can.

You may have a tight budget, but you give what you can afford.

A woman recently told the campaign her family skipped a pizza dinner at their favorite place so that they could make a difference in this election.

That is the commitment that drives this campaign.

If you can support Barack with a donation today, please know it makes a huge difference. If we win, it will be because of what you did at moments like this....

    Thanks,

    Michelle

So skip a few meals for Dear Leader.

Churches take the same fundraising approach when they ask congregations to donate above their 10% tithe. They'll ask for members to cut out a weekly luxury like a meal out or going to Starbucks for coffee and donate the money saved to their project or missions fund. They're not asking people to starve themselves, they're just asking them to reevaluate their budget for the greater good. This isn't any different.

And fuck you for making me take up for an Obama. :-)

Actually it is. When a church asks you to do it, it's because of your faith. When Obama asks you to hand a multi million dollar man money and miss a meal (which Michelle probably should do) it's down right wrong. Can you imagine the outrage if Bush did this? Or Romney?

They're not asking anyone to miss a meal. They're asking them to make other plans to save money and donate it.

I wouldn't give up a coconut flavored gummy bear that I dropped on the floor for obama.

And i hate churches for asking for money when they're already loaded.

The fact that someone who rakes in millions of dollars, and takes expensive trips on the taxpayer dollars is asking for someone to cut out a luxury of their life is fucking appalling.

I'm not sure about this "churches do the same thing" argument. Yes, churches ask for money, but a lot of that money is given back to the community. Most churches offer food, clothes, shelter, etc to people who need help. As with everything some do more than others, and there is always greedy people out there. However a very good portion of churches give a very good portion of the money they receive to people who are in need of it. Obama on the other hand wants your money for himself. The money they are asking for is not to help other people, its so he can waste other peoples money on fancy dinners and negative campaign ads. There is a very big difference in why they are asking you to sacrifice some of your hard earned money.
