North Korea is a good example of a country ran by generals of the military. They are the real power of the government.

Yeah, generally speaking the military is like your German Shepherd you raised to be an attack dog.

Its job is to be 100% vicious on command.

Otherwise it does try to be obedient and friendly enough, but all it actually trains to do is be vicious. At the end of the day, that's the military. From the top general to the lowest private - it's goal is warfare. Granted, different jobs do it different ways but a lot of the stuff we whine about as civilians would not and should not be tolerated in the military.

Hell, for all purposes you have no rights in the military. (you really do) Generally speaking a lot of prisoners have better lives than military personnel. Granted, there are plenty of prior service people who can run the country. However, IMO if it was only military run - it would be a dictatorship for all intents and purposes.

Rights, creature comforts, sympathy....RESPECT will go out the window - generally speaking.

If it did happen, they'd have to be made subordinate quickly to another POTUS/other civilian leadership.

There are reasons why when our military fights a true war they dominate and when politicians get all touchy feely we get bogged down. I refuse to say we lose, because we'd destroy the opposition in a true war. From the top down, our military really only knows and thinks 1 thing - how to accomplish mission objectives and those methods are not usually pretty.

Maybe a little drama there, and when you're a troop it's a lifestyle. Even without wars going on though, there is a reason why people have problems adapting to civilian lifestyle.

Ceyko (several posts up) is right on most counts, realizing that the stupidity that usually bogs down our military is from civilian leaders with no military background.

Even worse is a Democrapic moron who has no military, business, or any other background other than running for the next office and living off the gov tit.

A writer for the liberal, George Soros-funded website Media Matters stirred conservative outrage Thursday when he described a group of former Navy SEALs who have criticized the Obama administration for national security leaks as gutless.

So a guy that sits in his office sipping green tea, writing columns about politics all day thinks that Navy SEALs are gutless? Men that signed up for a job where you are to either kill or be killed nearly every mission, and succeded. Some of the baddest MFers in the world were called gutless by a little man who probably gets scared when his Prius gets over 45 mph.

President Obama said Monday he isn’t taking two groups of military veterans currently running campaign ads against him “too seriously.”

Last week, the Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund and Special Operations Speaks launched anti-Obama campaigns, criticizing the president for his handling of national security, intelligence leaks and taking too much responsibility for killing Osama bin Laden. The groups — both founded by ex-Navy SEALs — are political action committees made up of military veterans.

President Obama is writing off the attacks as partisan and unfounded.

“I don’t take these folks too seriously. One of their members is a ‘birther’ who denies I was born here, despite evidence to the contrary,” Obama told The Virginian-Pilot. “You’ve got another who was a tea party candidate in a recent election.”

“This kind of stuff springs up before election time,” Obama added.

Obama does have a point, at least on the background of the groups’ founders.

Last week, ex-Navy SEAL Larry Bailey, founder of Special Operations Speaks, told Foreign Policy magazine: “I have to admit that I’m a birther.”

Former Navy SEAL Scott Taylor, founder of OPSEC, is a former Republican candidate for office. To be sure, ones party affiliation and/or personal beliefs does not automatically mean there are ulterior motives at play.

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) found himself a target of a group of military veterans during his presidential bid in 2004, Politico reports. Earlier this week, he told supporters in a mass email: “I honor and appreciate the service of my fellow veterans, but a false attack is a false attack — no matter who’s making it,” Kerry wrote.

The leader of the OPSEC group is supposed to be a republican that ran for office a few years ago. I know a few of them believe this is political but a lot of them are pissed off that obama had to brag about what happened during his administration. The estimates are 10-20 years of intelligence are ruined since obama had to come out and say what happened to quickly. The CIA had no time to investigate what happened before obama said he killed bin laden with hand-to-hand combat.
