  • school textbook rant

So, just took a look at the schoolbooks issued to my youngest son, and half of them have the CNN website plastered on the cover AND in each chapter/section inside. Seriously, inside each subsection of each chapter, there is a small line or paragraph that tells the kids to 'visit www.cnnfyi.com'.

So now, not only do we have a heavily liberal-slanted educational system, but our kids are being directed to one of the most liberally-slanted media-machines on the planet. Fuck.

CNN is looking for viewers...even 7 year-olds. LOL! I'm betting they paid big fee's to have that kind of exposure. Remember- most kids that age need their parents to help with homework. THAT is who CNN is targeting in the immediate future.

At least they are still getting books . Saw this morning that Mansfield ISD i think it was , is issuing its High School Kids Ipads this year instead of books .

My child has the notebook for 2 years now, no shool books for the higher funded schools. CNN gave a little greenback for the advertisement, and the publishers are most diffidently liberals. Remember liberals are liberals for power nothing else. Take away the possibility of power and you have a "Yes Man". For you to get back at the school system is to move out of the district or enroll your child into another school, or homeschool. Remember you are the parent and you have a choice. But let me guess you work 24 hours a day and have no time to be a parent so lets let the school system be the parent for 3/4 of my childs life.

You got all of that from my post, huh?

I help my children with their homework every time they come home, I noticed the bullshit in his books because we sat down together and was looking them over.

Go fuck yourself, then eat a bullet.

They don't pick textbooks in Texas. Public schools in Texas all have to use the books set by the Texas Board of Education. In fact, textbook trends in Texas tend to influence textbook purchases in other states that don't have a statewide mandate on textbook parity, since the editions Texas uses are cheaper than some alternatives, owing to the sheer economies of scale created by the aforementioned statewide mandate.

Not only that, but some of the most powerful people on the BoE are/were highly conservative. So the "liberal" argument doesn't fly.

It does when they are taking cash from the liberal media sources to have their website included in the schoolbooks.

You should go through your kid's textbook and censor everything you don't agree with.

Did they change any of the information contained in the books, or just give a website as a "want to know more" type of reference?

Some people do, and it's fucking scary, IMO.

How would you know? What stops them from saying "hey, we do not agree with (enter whatever here), revise that or we cannot fund the cost of your books"?

And it matters not how it is being used, it is spammed hundreds times in the book, and for the record, it is a social studies book.

This is at the beginning of chapter 1, section 1:

What factors would you consider if you were moving to a new town or city" you would probably want to know about it's geography. Use CNNfyi.com (big, multi-colored logo, then back to smaller font) or other current events to investigate a place you may like to live. Record your findings in your journal.
This is at the beginning of each section, with slightly different wording. The website was used four times in the first 12 pages.

Call it what ever you want, it is a private company with specific political agendas/opinions having a direct link to their website, plastered hundreds of times in a public education school book. It is bullshit.
