        Private Joker:
Graduation is only a few days away, and the recruits of Platoon 3092 are salty. They are ready to eat their own guts and ask for seconds. The drill instructors are proud to see that we are growing beyond their control. The Marine Corps does not want robots. The Marine Corps wants killers. The Marine Corps wants to build indestructible men, men without fear.

I would have to say this is a fairly accurate description. It seems so far out there and it wouldn't be possible tomorrow, but it could happen and just sitting around believing that our own military could never do that in their own country is pretty foolish. It has been going on for thousands of years and it happening right this second in other parts of the world.

Yes, in other parts of the world the military doesn't owe allegiance to the Constitution. Instead they swear to serve their government. Also, from day one we're taught the atrocities of "following orders' and that that excuse does not protect you from war crimes tribunals.

Nowhere else on the planet are they drilled as we are.

If you remember back to the basic training days, the DIs tear you down to build you back up the way the government wants. Yes, they always tell you to not obey unconstitutional orders, but they also drill into your head over and over and over again that they don't pay you to think. They pay you to follow orders.

I have a cousin who got back from Iraq about a year ago and he is one that would follow ANY order.
Annoying people, one post at a time!

Well. I feel as strongly about this as all of you. I'd rather die defending my rights. But it'd kinda come down to what my family decides. Die for guns? Live and take care of them? Without arms that would be hard I know. Its a subject I'm torn on. Thoughts?

No, they build you up the way the military needs. If they built us like the government wanted, we'd obey immediately any order. Unless you've been to basic, you don't understand just how thoroughly this is hammered into you. You do not just follow orders. You refusing may cost you immediately but that's the cost. You'll be vindicated in the future.

Or maybe it's just infantry guys who have the spine to refuse unlawful orders. Which is fortunate because we're the ones they would send.

I will stand and fight. They may get them (I'll send my son and wife to NZ to make sure they're okay), but they won't do it without casualties.

Like I said earlier it as been going on since forever and it happens every where in the world. Under the right conditions what seems nuts today can change in time. It will be incremental and it will take a lot more than this piece of paper from the UN, but it could happen. If it came down to it they aren't going to send the mailman to your house to ask you to please give up your firearms.
