    US Official: American vessel fires on boat off Dubai in possible mistaken threat, 1 dead

    DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — A U.S. Consulate official in Dubai says an American vessel has fired on a boat off the coast of the United Arab Emirates, killing one person and injuring three.

    The official gave no further details, but it appears the boat could have been mistaken as a threat in Gulf waters not far from Iran’s maritime boundaries.

    An Emirati rescue official confirmed the casualty toll. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the incident between the two allies.

    The U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet, which is based in Bahrain, said it was investigating the Monday shooting.

    The U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi had no immediate comment.

      I really don't care if it is a tour boat full of nuns and Jerry's Kids, if you give them the warning to stay back, they had better do it or it is their own fault.

      Trust me, this is some planned shit, I care not who the say did it or what reason the give, this is just a probe to see how our forces will react.

              I can almost promise you it was not a mistake to fire. They probably did all they normally do and the receiving end of it did not listen.

              A lot like when soldiers shoot up car with just civilians in them at checkpoints in Iraq/other places. It's not like there were 20 signs and people yelling, possibly warning shots and everything else, yet they kept on coming.

              Granted, it's not like military personnel feel great about themselves after something like that. However, from what I saw - there are generally plenty of warnings.

                    Their normal protocol over there is to ignore authority and display disrespect for the US military. Post 2003, even after the bombs dropped, had two incidents involving oil tankers in the Persian gulf try to ram and/or cut off our aircraft carrier ... we sounded horns, cut speed and changed direction. Both tankers said ABU DAHBI or how ever you spell it. We didn't even go to general quarters... they are use to our bark.

                      Exactly. You have these idiots doing speed maneuvers around our concrete burms towards the checkpoints, ignoring signs and orders to stop and then are surprised when their car gets turned to scrap

                          I think at that point you put a few rounds into the bridge of those ships to show them the bite is just as bad as the bark.
