  • Obama closes border stations

The Obama administration is moving to shut down nine Border Patrol stations across four states, triggering a backlash from local law enforcement, members of Congress and Border Patrol agents themselves.

Critics of the move warn the closures will undercut efforts to intercept drug and human traffickers in well-traveled corridors north of the U.S.-Mexico border. Though the affected stations are scattered throughout northern and central Texas, and three other states, the coverage areas still see plenty of illegal immigrant activity -- one soon-to-be-shuttered station in Amarillo, Texas, is right in the middle of the I-40 corridor; another in Riverside, Calif., is outside Los Angeles.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection says it's closing the stations in order to reassign agents to high-priority areas closer to the border.

These will soon be considered "high priority area's". Dumbasses.

This is good. I love how the picture has the border, then mentions how some county will be affected. That county is no where near the boarder. We don't need bullshit checkpoints that the cartel already know exist; we need a fucking mine field between us and Mexico.

Or we could take the TSA, send them to the borders and use those nifty drones to strike anything crossing our border in addition to the mines

They're already on the highways (VIPR) and city buses.

                          This..

Did anyone read the actual article? None of these stations are actually "on the border"..

Billings, Montana? Amarillo, TX? Dallas, TX?

So what border are they patrolling in Dallas? The one that separate Oak Cliff from the rest of civilization?

The article wasn't clear on the exact purpose of these stations. Anyone have knowledge of that?

"Critics of the move warn the closures will undercut efforts to intercept drug and human traffickers in well-traveled corridors north of the U.S.-Mexico border. "
The story doesn't say they are border stations, it says they are Border Patrol stations, and if anyone actually read the story, they would notice that they are along the most used routes that illegals take after crossing into the US, and that is what the whole article is about.

And before someone says it, the quote below really explains why Norder Patrol stations are needed in places other than the border:

Thomas said that while his area is far from the border, it's still a major "corridor" for illegal immigrants -- and he said his office depends on Border Patrol to respond to their calls.

"I can't hold a carload of people out there on I-40 for eight hours while somebody comes from El Paso," he said. "I mean, that's just crazy."

They are there because the locals have no power to enforce immigration laws. The local boys have to call ICE to come in and tell them if the person is illegal so ICE can do something about it, otherwise you have to let them go. It's built to ensure that the wait until the border patrol can get there is so long, that you have to release the illegals
