  • Obama puts an entire industry out of business

The Las Vegas Review-Journal is Nevada's most trusted source for local news, Las Vegas sports, business news, gaming news, entertainment news and more.

A tiny amendment buried in the federal transportation bill to be signed today by President Barack Obama will put operators of roll-your-own cigarette operations in Las Vegas and nationwide out of business at midnight.

On a side note Texas tried to do this to our business when they passed the state wide licensing for Electricians. Previously no license was required for oil field work and their initial draft of the rules would have forced us to either pay a Master electrician who knew nothing about oil field work to sit around or go out of business. Luckily after several trips to Austin they finally listened and changed the rules for grandfathering people who had never worked in a regulated industry in.

That is highly probable, according to the state owning your own business for 20 years didn't qualify you for the license now needed to run the business lol. In the end a bunch of people who didn't deserve a Master's License got them because the state wouldn't create a separate license for industries such as the oil field, chemical plants, etc. Now if I want to eventually run the company I will have to work towards taking the Master's test that is 95% about wiring houses and buildings and has nothing to do with oilfield electrical.

I know a girl in CLE that has to shut her store down because of this. Hopefully there is a workaround.

I'm not real sympathetic to smokers, but the smoke shops weren't doing anything wrong. This is barry kissing big tobaccos ass.
