The ACUs were terrible. They lasted about 6 months each.
For a 12 month deployment I wore only 2 DCU pants, and I was in construction unit, so we were working. Two pants for 12 months and they never wore out. Hell, that was in 2006 and I turned one of the pants into shorts and still wear them nearly every day after work.DE OPPRESSO LIBER

This is usually why I bring civies to work and change there at work.Originally posted by exlude View PostI've seen a couple Army posts consider this rule. It's typically for operation and personnel security reasons. Unfortunately, wearing your uniform in public makes you are target.

Everchanging Uniforms
Look at the history of the uniform the past 20 years for it has changed considerably for most of the services. The OD Green was the longest style with the exception of the Vietnam era Jungle Fatigues (Which I still think are pretty good). The jungle boot style is still the prefered boot in most cases. The "Choclate Chip" Desert Uniform from the 1980's (Normally seen now in bad movies) were okay and designed for the Southwest part of the United States. The green/black parka with small square design ws excellent for night time use especially with NODs. There is going to be a time when the military figures camouflage is not needed for every MOS. Do you really need camouflage in a hospital? Pentagon? Airfield? On a ship? Although and the Navy and Marine's uniform pattern is pretty cool. How much is a camouflage shirt going to help walking around a division TOC? The military will also have to realize one pattern does not work in all environments from the desert, jungle, arctic, woods, or urban areas.
Well it will be more out of date surplus uniforms to wear.
