If there were no pictures or video, I would not blame you for thinking this was made up. But there are, and it’s not.
The New York Post has uncovered a dirty little secret about the supposed environmentally-clean NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The mayor apparently doesn’t like to enter a hot car, but his city has the toughest anti-idling laws in the country. So, naturally, his underlings rig a window air conditioning unit to hang out his SUVs window while it sits.
Yes, you read that right.
Here’s what the apparatus looks like when not hooked up:
Bloomberg Caught Using Window Air Conditioning Unit on His Car
But the Post grabbed even more pictures and video of the Franken-ac and explains how the contraption works:
“This is an experiment to be used on extremely hot days like the types we saw last week,” Bloomberg’s spokesman Stu Loeser told the Post.
“Even with the vehicles parked in the shade, the temperatures inside can quickly rise to more than 100 degrees.”
“There is far less emissions corresponding to the power of a single air conditioner on the grid than idling a V-8 engine,” he added.
But the eagle-eyed post noticed a type of do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do rhetoric:
When temperatures hit the high 90s a week ago, Bloomberg visited the Bronx Works senior center and called on New Yorkers to turn off “all non-essential appliances.”
“It only takes a couple of minutes to cool off a room,” he said at the time.
The restrictions-for-thee-and-not-for-me attitude is especially interesting considering Bloomberg’s recent war on sugary drinks, which has led to numerous accusations of social engineering.
See more pictures of the unit at the NY Post.
We’ll be sure to let you know if pictures surface of him drinking a 20-oz Mountain Dew in his window-air-conditioned SUV
