    Matthew 5:17-20

17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Even my initial point was to bring up the fact that I can find no source for the Benjamin Franklin quote and would like to have one provided. I, in that same post, showed how the evidence I've found indicates that he said no such thing.

I did not comment on Franklin's religious beliefs, nor did I comment on the validity of any supernatural claim.

In my second post (the one responding to you), I did nothing but clarify what atheism is. From then on, I've allowed you to guide the conversation. So, if it moves to a religious debate, that will be your doing, not mine.
My apologies Hatter. I just woke up and was reading yours and racr's so your name was added. As an apology, I offer you tea and cake.

Racr, who hasn't read the NT by his own admission, will tell you how that is wrong in a moment while he googles it

YAY for tea and cake! That is, assuming that tea and cake is code for hookers and blow...
Scientists do not coddle ideas. They crash test them. They run them into a brick wall at 60 miles per hour and then examine the pieces.

If the idea is sound, the pieces will be that of the wall.

Would they, in any way, be related to the rabbit of Caerbannog? If so, we need to make it a party and tell no one about the rabbits.....

Well, seeing as how you quote mined that particular part out, I don't need to explain how it's wrong, the next sentence in the passage adds clarification. The earth is still here, so there's no reason to believe that the old laws have been fulfilled.

Your understanding of what was written in that passage is lacking.

Edit: it is possible, that given the post times a ninja edit was performed by SS junk. If that's the case, then it wasn't quote mined per se by frost, but that short passage was taken out of context.

Not at all. Christ came and fulfilled the law. Perhaps you should read the book before criticizing it. I don't claim perfect understanding. That comes with study. I do claim to know what it says and my understanding thereof.

You've read it how many times to get your understanding of it again?

Id agree but i was referring to the aim of religion , not really how it turns out in the real world . And it seems when most people attack religion they attack its aim . They dont like to think that there may be anyone out there who could teach them a thin or two about how to live their lives .

Not necessarily . Many (if not all) religions (at least the ones that have enough influence to matter) share the same basic beliefs . Dont steal . Dont murder . Dont cheat your fellow man .

Now just take those 3 . Just those humble 3 . Apply it to our nations politicians and all the sudden the U.S is a paradise

I believe that you can be the good person that is described in the bible without believing in the whole Jesus died on the cross for your sins nonsense.
Religion, like politics, exists to control the masses. Nothing else.
With that said, I have close friends that are Christians and I respect their beliefs...we just do not discuss that topic.

Wrong, religion is used to control the masses only in a theocracy. Nowhere else.
