You have got to be kidding me that the NDAA and ACTA are more significant than what happened yesterday. The only thing I can conclude is you don't understand the significance of what happened yesterday.

          • I have a liberal friend who is a nurse that has been rainbows and unicorns about this. She posted a picture of a little girl with cancer with the caption, 'How can anyone think that denying her coverage is a good thing?' and the comments from supporters were touting the healthcare act as an end to corporate greed.

Yes, there are plenty of warm fuzzies written into it, but this isn't the end of corporate greed. I don't understand how they can't see that insurance companies are just going to get more creative in their denials and coverage limits.

Laugh inducing, but I'm done with it.

"Greed" is the word jealous people use in lieu of "success."

Yes, typically. I'm not a bleeding heart, but insurance companies are extra dirty when it comes to protecting their profits. I fully understand that they're in business to make money, but their tactics are a bit extreme. Used car dealers are easier to negotiate with.

Thomas Sowell wrote a great piece about this. I'm too lazy to look it up though.

Used cars dealers make it seem like they are easier to negotiate with, but in both circumstances you get fucked. The difference being private companies are not the government. Ever tried shopping around for the best price on a postage stamp?

Keep in mind I have Tricare for Life (for retirees). You can go into any hospital for emergency care, but if you actually want a doctor, you have to find one that accepts Tricare. Then you have to get them approved with Tricare, then you have to file papers every year updating your income so they know if they can bill you further or not.

However Tricare when you're in the military? You'll never use it because your unit will take care of you

Especially since no one denies claims like the federal government

                          • Summary of funding
The Act's provisions are intended to be funded by a variety of taxes and offsets. Major sources of new revenue include a much-broadened Medicare tax on incomes over $200,000 and $250,000, for individual and joint filers respectively, an annual fee on insurance providers, and a 40% tax on "Cadillac" insurance policies. There are also taxes on pharmaceuticals, high-cost diagnostic equipment, and a 10% federal sales tax on indoor tanning services. Offsets are from intended cost savings such as improved fairness in the Medicare Advantage program relative to traditional Medicare.[43]
                            Summary of tax increases:
Broaden Medicare tax base for high-income taxpayers: $210.2 billion
Annual fee on health insurance providers: $60 billion
40% excise tax on health coverage in excess of $10,200/$27,500: $32 billion
Impose annual fee on manufacturers and importers of branded drugs: $27 billion
Impose 2.3% excise tax on manufacturers and importers of certain medical devices: $20 billion
Raise 7.5% Adjusted Gross Income floor on medical expenses deduction to 10%: $15.2 billion
Limit contributions to flexible spending arrangements in cafeteria plans to $2,500: $13 billion
All other revenue sources: $14.9 billion
Original budget estimates included a provision to require information reporting on payments to corporations, which had been projected to raise $17 billion, but the provision was repealed.[44]

This will be the largest tax increase in the history of the world.
