Look at how many innocent people have been put to death on death row for crimes they didn't commit. How many have been exonerated 20 and 30 years later, due to corrupt Law Enforcement. Sheet rock dust busts. Murders during arrests and detainments. Rapes, theft, and extortion. All have been proven and there are videos and articles all over the net to validate.
Is it tragic that the badge is often times nothing more than just a cover for crime, or just a statement on where we, as a society, just are? How do you prevent these happenings from coloring the efforts of the majority making up the 'good cops'?

No excuses.
The kicker is afterwards, do they lie to save their own skin or do what's right for the community they are supposedly serving???

Originally posted by hustleman View PostAs a LEO, I don't like this law. Not that I stomp on civil liberties or don't follow the 4th amendment to best of my understanding, but this law will just get a bunch of people killed. Someone said it earlier, If LEOs are going into a house there will be a bunch of us. If shots are fired, there will be return fire until rounds stop coming. When LEOs enter a home they are not going in to kill, they are going into take control of the situation and serve the warrant. Now if entry is illegal then let the courts sort it out. If illegal all evidence gained will be thrown out and charges will be dropped. Even 100% guilty criminal all say they are absolutely innocent when every encountered by LE. So in their minds if they think they are innocent, then any entry is considered unlawful to them and they may start sending rounds down range. All you guys that think this is a good law, just understand you will be dead as well and won't be able to get on DFWmustangs.net and post how you defended your home and were justified. So be careful what you wish for.
All its going to take is one bad incident where a bunch of people die for this legislation to be repealed
As stated earlier I am for 100% for home owners to defend themselves and their property, but government is not going into someones home without probable cause and definitely not going in to kill the occupants.
Just my opinion.
You are 100% wrong. Being arrested and letting the courts sort things out will cause security clearance to be denied for people seeking positions of national security, regardless if they were in the right or wrong. There will be a record of an arrest and whatever else happens further which can screw someone over.

I agree with your post in it's entirety.
Though it addresses only one instance of my assertion. It goes deeper than just traffic stops. Which is why so many people no longer view the profession
as an honorable one. Heck, even my 68 year old Korean War Vet FIL looks down upon it, and he's damned near Clint Eastwood in Torino...

I understand hustleman's argument.
Those motherfuckers might do something as retarded as change the numbering on their house and then claim the police were invading unlawfully, then they'd start shooting. This law is common sense, but the people he and other LEO's deal with on a daily basis are seriously lacking in that area. This is a stupid law in that it states something that should be understood in our society, but it also points to the rise in abuse of power and unwarranted jack booted tactics by all types of law enforcement.

The law states that if your home is invaded, and you shoot the invaders... And the invaders happen to be LEO at the wrong address... You won't be charged with killing a peace officer. Nothing more. It does not clear you if they're serving a correct warrant.Originally posted by PGreenCobraI can't get over the fact that you get to go live the rest of your life, knowing that someone made a Halloween costume out of you. I'm just stating that the dumb shits (you know, the "I know my rights!" people) out there that are LEGALLY and CORRECTLY being served with search warrants will think that somehow this law allows them the right to start shooting. That's what I would fear if I was a LEO currently. The average suspect in most day to day crimes is absolutely ignorant to their constitutional rights, and usually just go by what they heard from "they cuhzzin".

I don't mind the law there. We shouldn't be entering wrong houses. I am sure soon we won't even go into houses at all lol. The big problem, in general, are hot calls. I've been to a sexual assault in progress at an apartment building, but couldn't tell which room it was coming from ("thin walls"). Game time decision, kick in the door (I actually just opened it, but kicking in sounded good), I got the right one. That is a "no knock" situation. I do think this law would help with other situations though. I knew what I signed up for and the possibility of dying anyhow, but I won't be going into the wrong house anyhow.
Edit to add on to the story. They apartment address was given, no apartment number. Neighbors just heard screaming and fighting and didn't know which apartment it was in as well. Basically, even with this law in Indiana, there is nothing I would have done differently. Other than maybe running over to the side of the building maybe to see if I can hear it over there. Who knows.
